Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Oh yes the t60 has the thinnest/lightest ring. I believe the t20 has a lighter foam ring than the t40 and t50, but I'd be surprised if the supposedly major tuning differences between them are just due to that and not some effect on the rear port. Maybe that's just marketing. Anyway. I think I...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Yes sorry I meant the rear vent. Paxmate looks a little thicker but I think they do the same job. Oh yes. Argons have significant mods to the front side of the baffle. Firstly there is a 1mm layer of felt around the driver in the inner/lower depression. Then there is a piece of impermeable...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Thanks for post. I am going to install dual trs connectors for balanced and block up the existing port so imbalance should be less of a problem. Removing covering over bass port to make it a t20 also not a problem. I have the t60rp pads already. I have a lot of paxmate so assume I can use this...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Thanks for the quick and comprehensive post. I had the mayflower baffles on my t60rp (which I sold). Yes the bass was very bloated but the argons also have sealed front ports and so do all mk2s but don't have that bloat. I wonder if the different paper on the back of the driver makes it have...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Hello everyone. I need some advice on modding my T40rpmk3 please. I have the T60 Argon already I have been trawling the internet and have managed to find pictures of the inside of the original Mad Dogs, the T50rpmk3 argon, and my own T60 Argon, plus I know what is inside the T50rp anniversary...

    Fostex T50RP 50th Anniversary Edition

Thanks for the replies and link. Wow I didn't know there was going to be a Mk4! Interesting! I was looking at the Old Mad dogs and I found a german website that showed all the pictures from inside here: http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-211-677.html What's interesting is that the mods are...

    Fostex T50RP 50th Anniversary Edition

Thank you for the interesting comments. It was the T50rpmk3 I had previously, and it did have a load of yellow glue on the driver paper, but I still thought it sounded better with it on. I ended up turning that set into an Open Alpha. I thought the pictures I saw of the inside of the 50th...

    Fostex T50RP 50th Anniversary Edition

I can't remember exactly tbh. I sold those, but just did buy another t40 yesterday lol. I tried it because I read a few comments saying it would improve them, but I remember maybe it sounded sort of "thin" kind of tinny maybe. This was with a totally undamped cup though. Am I right that the...

    Fostex T50RP 50th Anniversary Edition

Confused as to why you took off the damping paper. When I did that with my stock t50mk3 it totally destoyed the sound. I don't remember why now but it was awful to my ears. Was very glad I was able to stick it back on...

    Fostex T60RP

Thanks I have investigated this now. The aftermarket cables they sell are indeed balanced, but the one that comes in the box as stock with a 3 pole on one and and a 4 pole on the other definitely isn't (unless they did a special for some versions which included an additional balanced cable in...

    Fostex T50RP 50th Anniversary Edition

Did anyone comment on the driver differences? Are Fostex getting confused in their marketing department? If I recall the T60rp driver was different to the T50rp Mk2 driver, but the driver in the Mk3 and the T60rp are the same as far as I know, i.e. thicker paper with the square hole instead of...

[FiiO KA17] Mini desktop-class amp, flagship dongle is officially released!

Correct I can't hear any major difference even when A/B testing as had both devices in my hand and I'd be surprised if you could as well if you were honest with yourself. But I'm sure I could find a cookie for you to reward your incredible hearing.

    Fostex T60RP

Cool. I saw you posted this. Thanks. Sorry for being dumb - is the paper essentially showing the wiring of the stock fostex cable, and you used this to understand how the socket was wired and hence made your own cable, Is that why the paper image shows two jacks, a 3 pole and a 4 pole? But as i...

    Fostex T60RP

Oh dear. I found the cable I bought was listed as being compatible with T60tp. I guess it was mis-sold then. I could cut the end off but I think it would be difficult to tell which cable was which. Maybe just buy a more expensive one... I am still none the wiser about the stock T60tp cable though!

    Fostex T60RP

Thanks @freemental but I still don't get it. Are you saying that you can use the stock Fostex cable to do balanced? If so, why do you need a different cable? If not, what is the point of it being "balanced on one end, and regular stereo on the other". thats the bit I don't get. @Jimmyblues1959...

    Fostex T60RP

Related to my post above. Can anyone explain what the point of the stock T60rp cable is? why does it have a 4 pole connection on one end, and a three pole connection on the other. The female jack on the headphones can take a balanced 3.5mm input, why isn't it just 3 pole on each end? Thanks

    Fostex T60RP

Hi. I am in the same position as you but very confused. I am finding it almost impossible to get a 4.4mm balanced jack for my headphone amplifier, to go into a 3.5mm balanced jack to go into my T60RP argon. I bought a cheapo cable from aliexpress which was meant to be for a DAP, that should...

[FiiO KA17] Mini desktop-class amp, flagship dongle is officially released!

I have been extremely critical of the ka17 on this thread but most of my complaints have been fixed with the 2.0 firmware update. Stability is improved, less pops, hardware buttons for play and pause finally. I think it's a good device. However I still believe the ka13 is the better device as in...

    Modhouse Audio Argon - T50RP MK2/3 & T60RP

So I just got my T60rp Argon and only tested for a few minutes but first impressions are they sound great. Running on an SMSL Do400 that puts out 3w@32ohms. Great but not bloated bass and mid bass, and nice amount of treble. No silibance or sharp treble at all, but still crispy. Very nice...

    Modhouse Audio Argon - T50RP MK2/3 & T60RP

Seems like the T60rp argon was designed for ZMF pads, but when they commissioned the Xenon pads, it made a big difference, but I don't know if he modded the actual headphones to work better with the new pads. You seem to feel that the new pads on the zmf version of the argon is poor without...

[FiiO KA17] Mini desktop-class amp, flagship dongle is officially released!

The ka17 consumes more power than ka5 when d mode is off BTW. . I just don't believe you if you think the KA17 sounds noticeably better. Maybe you have ears like a bat. Or maybe cognitive dissonance for your new purchase.

[FiiO KA17] Mini desktop-class amp, flagship dongle is officially released!

I find the problems intermittent. Sometimes it plays without having to open the fiio app and detect the device, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes opening an app or pressing the home button makes it disconnect and it needs to be un plugged and replugged. Sometimes that doesn't work and it needs to...
