Review by 'Shagatron' on item 'Astell & Kern SR35'
tl;dr The SR35 is a perfectly paired down device that is delightfully pocketable and transportable. There are some hiccups, it’s not perfect, but it could be perfect for you! This is a narrative review instead of an analytical review. Come with me on my journey. My first DAP was the Questyle...- Shagatron

Astell & Kern DAPs incompatible with Macs?
Just picked up an SR35 and plugged in my SD card from my Fiio M17. Connected it to my Mac Mini. The device doesn't show up in Finder, so I can't use a syncing program like FreeFileSync. There is not an app market on the device, so I can't install Resilio Sync. If I use Android File Transfer...- Shagatron

Oops the dead battery is my fault. But honestly the standby time is good enough that it's convinced me, a conservative power-offer, to leave it on standby. This has also convinced me to use it more. I'm still not the biggest fan of its sound, but if you are comfortable carrying a murse on you...- Shagatron

I use a 45W charger (I believe is QC3) for mine and have not noticed any decrease in battery life or performance. The device gives a little flair on the screen to let you know that it is fast charging, but other than that, no warnings.- Shagatron

Ether 2 headphones from Dan Clark Audio with 1/4" VIVO cable purchased in 2020. Has upgraded suede ear pads, but you may want to replace them. The connection between the cable and the headphone is a little bit loose. It's been like that since I bought them. You won't notice it in the music, but...- Shagatron

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
I can compare it to the Gilmore Lite mk2 I have right now and say that the MJ3 blows it out of the water. Way more lively and enjoyable. If my memory of the full GS-X mk2 remains accurate, I think they sound pretty similar, at least in resolution and detail. Not sure where the Mini falls between...- Shagatron

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
Finally got my Mjolnir 3. Currently doing some burn-in but these are my initial impressions compared to my Mjolnir 2. Current testing chain is: Roon -> Google ChromeCast Audio optical -> Schiit Yggdrasil 2 OG -> Snake Oil Taipan XLRs -> Schiit Mjolnir 2/3 -> Audeze LCD-5 with stock balanced...- Shagatron

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
My tubed Mjolnir 2 is still my favorite headphone amp. When I compared it to the summit-fi HeadAmp GS-X mk2, you could hear some very slight differences that I think were only there because of the tubes. I bet the Mjolnir 3 will be indistinguishable from that $3k amp. Very excited for folks to...- Shagatron

I would also like to add that I found a play button in the Pure Music UI that only plays the first song in an album, even though the play button is for the album. Just wild stuff. Save up for a lifetime sub to Roon; it’s worth it.- Shagatron

Review by 'Shagatron' on item 'FiiO M17'
EDIT: Bumped up my rating from 3.5 to 4 because of a software update to make the M17 a proper Roon endpoint. You can now listen to Roon with the full guts of the device. There is a NOTICEABLE sound improvement. Good riddance to the Fiio player. Overall, the device is still unjustifiably big...- Shagatron

[FiiO M17] Dual ES9038PRO, dual THXAAA-788+, dual power supplies, 9200mAh battery, 2 volume control modes
This is the most exciting thing I've ever heard. I'm trading my A&K SP1000M just so I can watch Off The Air on my Apple TV and listen with my LCD-5.- Shagatron

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
Anyone have a Mjolnir 2 and move to a newer amp that they are happier with? I'm thinking about the McIntosh MHA200 and the Benchmark HPA4.- Shagatron

Audeze DSP presets now available in Roon
Hi! My apologies as I mean this in the most polite way that I can but I don't know how to phrase it well: Why is this taking so long? I'm no software/hardware/sound engineer, so I'm just really curious. I'm absolutely in love with my LCD-5 and can't believe they may end up sounding even better. :)- Shagatron

Fiio X5 vs X1 w/ amp
That's kind of what I was thinking. I know with desktop DACs, there's not too much variation until you get into the super expensive stuff. The amp is what brings the discernable differences at all price ranges. I just wasn't too sure if that translated to portable stuff as well.- Shagatron

Fiio X5 vs X1 w/ amp
Oh yeah, I have no doubt that just an X1 could drive them fine. But wouldn't an external amp, especially one made for IEMs, provide better quality sound?- Shagatron

Fiio X5 vs X1 w/ amp
Hi all! I was looking into portable, affordable audio solutions when I came across the Fiio E12A IEM edition. Something about it appeals to me in a way that I can't quite put my finger on. Doing some research, I found that using the line-in with the headphone jack on my phone would cause double...- Shagatron

How do you find new music?
I absolutely recommend lurking around on Bandcamp! There is an endless amount of people posting their passion projects there, and if you're a heartless monster, a lot of it can be legally downloaded for free (With an option to pay what you want). All music there can be downloaded in FLAC, 320k... -
