DAC-AH passive mod help: step by step
alright, i just purchased 4.7uF solen polypropylene caps as per your recommendation. is it alright if i use generic ratshack cables to hook it all up, or will it degrade the signal? i think not, since the distance of the wire is so short, but maybe someone else has seen otherwise. i hope...- thislittlepiggy

DAC-AH passive mod help: step by step
are there any advantages to using film caps over electrolytic? I'm kind of intimidated by the size and price of film caps. would a 4.7 uF 50V blackgate N be enough?- thislittlepiggy

DAC-AH passive mod help: step by step
I'm thinking about doing the passive mod that has been talked about on the forums, but the pictures that I've seen are kind of confusing. First off, can I just use generic radioshack resistors and caps such as these: 1/2 watt 100k resistor 4.7uF 35V cap Secondly, what do I do with the...- thislittlepiggy

EMU 0404USB: 1/4 TS vs. Stereo Output - an underrated difference
I'm intrigued yet skeptical of the difference between the two outputs. Is there anyone else who can support his findings? Also, does anyone know where to get inexpensive TS to RCA cables?- thislittlepiggy

Ath-CK7::First Impressions
i think it's just a matter of preference. i think that the ck7's bass is very pronounced. you may just need an earphone with more bass to suit your tastes. i wouldn't say the sound has changed much with burn-in, but hopefully, you will become accustomed to the sound sig as you continue to use...- thislittlepiggy

making the XFI - out put sound like a true line out or close?
u can never get true line out from an x-fi, since the output is amped within the card. in lieu of getting a dac, i guess you can just set the volume to ~50%, attach the amp, and set bitperfect settings.- thislittlepiggy

recommendation for amp or something to go between my laptop and d2000
I suggest you get a DAC first or a DAC/Amp combination. Right now, I'm using an E-MU 0404 USB as my DAC and amp since it has both. The DAC section of the 0404 is excellent for the price, and the amp is decent. After you aggregate enough $$ you can upgrade to a better amp.- thislittlepiggy

Has burn-in ever been a bad thing?
The focus of this thread is split between those that are talking about damaging the headphones by burning in and those who are talking about changes in sound from burn-in that may make it sound worse. I'm sure that burning-in at inappropriate volumes and circumstances will damage the phones, but...- thislittlepiggy

Has burn-in ever been a bad thing?
I don't mean to incite a flame war, but i'm just curious if anyone ever had an instance where burn-in made your headphones sound worse instead of better. Please, indulge me.- thislittlepiggy

Headphone Choice DT990 or HD650?
i think the big difference between the HD650 and the DT990 is the midrange. DT990 has less than the HD650 making it sound like it has a "V" equalizer-like signature. I've had both, but not at the same time, but if i were to choose, i would go with the HD650 because i found the treble of the...- thislittlepiggy

Something like the HD580's but a wee bit less laid back?
I'm in the exact same situation as you. My HD580s are ok, but they are too laidback/warm for me. I was thinking about the Denon D2000 even though they are closed rather than open, since I've read that they are pretty "forward" sounding.- thislittlepiggy

iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
haha found my answer for the last question, still searching for an answer to the first one.... "To summarize, if interested in trying this combo, one needs a 2-1 single to dual Browndog adapter (DIP), 4 sockets, 4 jumpers, and 2 AD797 DIP opamps. Soldering the sockets onto the adapter... -
iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
thanks a bunch. i'll send him a pm. do i need a single-to-dual adapter for the DAC? also, do i just insert the dummy sockets straight into the sockets on the D1 or do i need a single-to-dual adapter? i've been trying to figure this out for a while. -
iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
ok, i'm interested in doing this combination: L/R: AD797 (DIP) Buffer: Bypass w/ dummy sockets DAC: stock I have a slew of questions: Do I need a Brown Dog adapter if the AD797 is DIP? If so, can someone give me a link to a place that sells one? I'm having trouble finding one. Where... -
iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
thanks, that's what i suspected. is there a list of more "detailed" and less "boomy" opamps you can suggest? also, should i switch the opamps in the amp stage, buffer stage, or the DAC stage? -
iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
thanks for the advice. i tried researching this a little before posting this thread, but came up with very inconsistent information. another noob question: does one opamp have the same effect on different amps? for example, if i read on a fubar III thread that so-and-so amp gives better bass... -
iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
thx for the info. i'm a total noob when it comes to opamps, so i don't know what a brown dog is. i thought that the iBasso D1 had sockets for the opamps that allowed for easy switching. -
iBasso D1 Opamp Rolling
i just got my iBasso D1 last week, and it sounds alright with my HD580. however, i'm not all that impressed especially in the bass department. i feel that it's a little to loose for my taste. what opamps should i use to increase the impact of the bass? also, where can i buy opamps?- thislittlepiggy

Stay with HD580s or switch to DT770s?
haha u guys are funny. getting more than one pair of headphones to suit my moods had crossed my mind, but i'd rather just have one pair for everything. i think i'm just going to sell my e-mu 0404 and get an iBasso D1. that thing has it all and in such a small package.- thislittlepiggy
