Power output aside between the two....it's still a different topology which theoretically makes a significant difference to the sound plus on top of that you can connect a much higher grade DAC to the EF1000 than what the in-built DAC of the EF1000DAC has to offer ! . So all in all...- Bonesy Jonesy

It's not the same as the EF1000..... different topology for the pre-amp and power amp and inferior to the EF1000 !- Bonesy Jonesy

However, quite a few people who had the dCS Rossini and Vivaldi (even the Ampex update) talk about on another hifi forum that they sold their dCS gear for a another TOTL DAC from a another manufacturer as they found the dCS sound too sterile, cold and fatiguing and although very transparent was...- Bonesy Jonesy

Aries Cerat Genus Integrated Headphone & Speaker Amp (especially linked to the Aries Cerat Helena DAC) should also be auditioned with the Susvara if you can ! Never heard this set-up myself, but people who have say it's a great set-up !- Bonesy Jonesy

I have never had any so called 'sharpness' to the sound from my Susvara before the EF1000 when I used it with my Chord Choral Prima Pre-Amp and Chord Choral Mezzo 140 and whilst waiting for my EF1000 to be delivered the loaned Pathos Inpol EAR Amp.- Bonesy Jonesy

People keep chiming about 'power' for the Susvara....but it's not as simple as that.....it's lots of quality current that is need from the Amp to make the Susvara's sing. And I am afraid that such Amps that can provide such a current output are expensive.- Bonesy Jonesy

To my ears and experience, yes that is true both for my analogue source and digital source where I have the 'CD' RCA input of the EF1000 for my CH P1 Phono Stage and the EF1000 'DAC' RCA input for my Chord DAVE DAC !- Bonesy Jonesy

Also note that the EF1000 has a tube Pre-Amp not SS i.e. even more susceptible to overload issues and hence needs to be fully protected from them (as I'm sure Hifiman have done) !- Bonesy Jonesy

FYI; Believe (according to Chord Specs) that my Chord DAVE outputs max approx. 4.4V via the unbalanced RCA's to my EF1000 and believe(according to CH Precision Specs) my CH P1 Phono Stage outputs max approx. 4.0V via the unbalanced RCA's to my EF1000 !- Bonesy Jonesy

Sounds like a current and or voltage surge overload from your source component(s) into the EF1000 where the EF1000 has shut down to protect itself !- Bonesy Jonesy

Hi 'TDHead', It's holding up great. Thank you for asking. Much appreciated (it's a lonely place in the world having an EF1000 with not many people asking about it !) Not thinking at all of changing it as it's a fantastic Amp (actually it's a hybrid Integrated Amp) - Pre-Amp & Power Amp)...- Bonesy Jonesy

It was very good. If I had never heard the Viva, AIC-10-BAL and EF1000 with the Susvara, and upgraded to the Envy from a much lesser Amp, I would be very happy with the Envy. The Viva had more body and 'meat on the bone' i.e. a thicker sound than the Envy with the Susvara. Some people...- Bonesy Jonesy
