Sennheiser IE800 IEM's
I have LCD-5's, HD800s, and several different AKG. I don't buy kilobuck IEM's because I get substantial enjoyment from my ie800's with .adv tips and the mmcx mod. When I go to shows and A-B compare mine with IEM's costing several thousands, they just don't sound substantially better to...- harryb

Comment by 'harryb' in item 'ADV custom IEM sleeves'
I'm using .ADV custom tips with my Sennheiser ie800's. Love them. Ordered a set for my AKG N5005 that are on the way.- harryb

Sennheiser IE800 IEM's
I get it.......just think the aesthetics of the IE800 are not a problem, even with the clunky mmcx mod.- harryb

Sennheiser IE800 IEM's
Yeah, a few points here from this thread: 1. I don't think mmcx connectors alter the wonderful appearance of the ie800. The ceramic IEM is remarkably cool looking and I don't think the connectors detract from that. I also like using them top down over ear.. 2. Custom tips like .ADV or...- harryb

Sennheiser IE800 IEM's
Gotta say I still love these IEM's after many years. I was an early adopter of ie800 (day they were released) and I still like them better than ie800s. I had the ie800 modified to mmcx by Vesper about a year ago, and then had custom tips made by .ADV that really improved things. The...- harryb

Got the AK 120, but I have a problem...
Nope the AK120 has a single ended, not balanced output. If you need a balanced output, you will need a modification.- harryb

Astell & Kern AK120 impression thread
Yeah....I can't really disagree with that. 1.33 was pretty darn good. I've got 1.37 running at the moment and can't hear much difference on most content, and the interface is slightly less sluggish. Too bad we don't have a couple of units side by side to test.- harryb

[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs
Ok....so I tried this again, this time using little pieces of a microfiber cloth between the grills. Much improved in attenuating the highs a bit while maintaining the mids.- harryb

[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs
Tried that with a piece of tea bag material, but I felt like it dulled the mids a bit too. Will experiment with some other materials.- harryb

[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs
I love these headphones, but i gotta be honest......I find the treble pronounced and a touch irritating in longer listening session, particularly if I am on an airplane and have the volume up. Still not sure I'm gonna get something else....there's too much i like about these. Do others have...- harryb

Review: Spiral Ear SE 5-way Reference - A new level of resolution? (Review posted 5/15/12)
you got it. the rwak120 is the impedance mod....the rwak120s swaps out the dacs.....the rwak120b is balanced. Personally, i agree with you that if you want amp flexibility and your ok with single ended, the S is the way to go. But boy would i like to compare the S mod to the B mod.- harryb

Review: Spiral Ear SE 5-way Reference - A new level of resolution? (Review posted 5/15/12)
We're talking about the same mod......the S mod known as the RWAK120-S has the replacement dac chips. Couldn't agree with you more that it smokes every other portable source currently known to mankind. Just can't imagine something coming along better, although i've said that before....so only...- harryb

Review: Spiral Ear SE 5-way Reference - A new level of resolution? (Review posted 5/15/12)
Replaces the Wolfson WM8740's with the WM8741's. This allows them to run in "hardware mode" without digital volume control, and also allows programming into the minimal phase digital filter option. An audio guru friend of mine told me that his home dac uses the WM8741 and he always sets it...- harryb

Lee....you finally got the S mod. Congrats. Needless to say, I'm not surprised you think it's awesome. For some reason, I just haven't been motivated to play around with amps lately. Just sounds too good with my SR-71a. I'll be interested to hear what you think of the TU-05, although...- harryb

The Astell & Kern AK120
Yes, this is a common misunderstanding. If the PS3 hardware is one of the correct units, but the software has been advanced past 3.55, it CANNOT be rolled back simply with a software modification. And it is more complicated than just flashing the firmware. Two nand chips have to be removed...- harryb

The Astell & Kern AK120
Hi Kerry: Sure, that's a possibility......don't have enough experience with it yet to say if it's a problem or not. I don't think it gets hot enough to melt anything. Does anybody around here know the impact of moderate heat on an SD card? Harry- harryb

The Astell & Kern AK120
Hi Sid: Here's the adaptor I'm using: http://dx.com/p/sd-to-microsd-transflash-card-converter-module-27001 Yes, it works with standard SD cards. Holding the door back is not necessary because it's held back by the connectors. The problems is that when microSD cards are...- harryb

The Astell & Kern AK120
Hi Sam and Sid: You probably know this, but the problem is the AK120 was designed with a little door to hold microSD cards in place. Because that door is open, even a slight tug on the ribbon connector and it pops out. My dream is to figure out a way to secure a couple of these so...- harryb
