Headphones or Speakers that sound real?

One of the streaming services (Qobuz, I think) is beginning to offer high quality 3D files which I'm told give a more realistic concert rendition. Hardware-wise, you'd probably need to go for monitor speakers that will give you what's on the recording without colouration. I've binned headphones...

So is the Loki but you can find them used.

    Loki Mini Impressions

I'd go for a Loki. Why? You can up the bass incrementally and you can also up (or down) 3 other channels to perfect the sound you like.

    Loki Mini Impressions

It will do this but it's much more than a bass booster.

    Loki Mini Impressions

Agreed. I use it to add a bit of color to my Genelec 8010A monitor speakers. Works a treat.

    Adapters

Not tried either. EA do an even more expensive version here: https://www.effectaudio.com/accessories/ultrashort-right-angled-adaptor-2-5mm-3-5mm-934.html

Ethan Winer's Null Tester - Do Different Cables Pass Audio Differently?

It's a long debated subject and probably boring for many but his tests were interesting. Personally, I have loved trying cables but over the years have learnt that I like a good copper cable, well made but not exotic. The equipment I use would never warrant thousand dollar cables anyways. Good...

Who Here Is Still Using HeadRoom Amps/DACs?

Good amps! They did a balanced version of the Max, too, I think.

Who Here Is Still Using HeadRoom Amps/DACs?

Or have the old boys left the building, happy with what they had? :)

Who Here Is Still Using HeadRoom Amps/DACs?

Mine are still going strong and have sold many more recent amps in favour of the HeadRoom Ultra Micro Amp/DAC stack. Admittedly, I don't carry these around with me unless I go travelling for a while but I still love the sound, especially now paired with a Schiit Loki.

Do You Listen To The Music Or Analyse The Music?

Agreed. Reference music is overrated. I disagree with those who say your equipment should simply transfer an exact copy of what was recorded in the studio. Why? Sometimes what was recorded in the studio wasn't great quality-wise and in order to enjoy it it needs help. Plus.. music is about...

Anyone else had problems contacting Schiit Audio? I sent them an email on Sunday and still have had no response. Sent two follow up emails on Tuesday and Wednesday.. no response. Pinged Jason a PM to see if he could check for me. No response to PM..

Do You Listen To The Music Or Analyse The Music?

I came into this hobby 20 years ago and spent many an hour on this site chatting about equipment. In 2009 our son came along and my priorities changed and so I took a break from everything for nearly a decade, although I still ran a nice speaker system. Forward wind to 2021 and lockdown and I...

How much difference will a high-end DAC make?

Not in this thread, no. We're talking about, I believe, what "sounds" the best. Resale value etc.. is by the by. If you have to worry about resale value you probably shouldn't be spending $17k on a DAC..

How much difference will a high-end DAC make?

Not necessarily. Many just jostle to own the "best". And the "best" may cost the most but not always sound the best. That's subjective.

How much difference will a high-end DAC make?

Well, at least with your ears cleaned out you're listening to "your" truth.
