DAC/Amp or PC sound card to drive headphone?
My very cheap music set up goes like the following: PC --> optical out --> old home theater receiver --> AKG 240 Mk II This sounded okay until I hooked up my new super cheap Sony earbuds to the home theater receiver and found they sound better than the AKG. Below is the link to the...- dumbttt

AKG 240 vs ATH M50
Quote: Using receiver as a headphone amp actually made a huge difference. I am surprised that my old headphone sounded really different on the receiver from my new K240 (when plugged into the PC directly, they both sounded the same). The old Senn EH350 has cleaner mid and highs but no...- dumbttt

AKG 240 vs ATH M50
Quote: It's a mid-range AV receiver, its neither top of the line nor absolute crap. I think the AV receiver will probably do a better job than a $30 sound card. Slightly disappointed that I didn't hear any difference over the Senn EH 350 using the onboard sound though, I thought I...- dumbttt

AKG 240 vs ATH M50
Quote: Just got my K240 last night. It is indeed extremely comfortable, most of the time I didn't even notice that I was wearing a headphone. As for sound quality, I couldn't detect any improvement from Senn EH350 even with FLAC files. I canceled my order for the Xonar DG, and...- dumbttt

AKG 240 vs ATH M50
Decided to go with the AKG 240 MK II. The main reason I picked this over the M50 and HD 280 was comfort. I feel those two would clamp my head too tightly. Also like AKG's semi-open design. Since I will be using it in the house, being able to hear what's going on would be nice. Wife would be...- dumbttt

AKG 240 vs ATH M50
Another option is Senn HD 280. It's slightly cheaper and has good reviews. How is the comfort on that one? It seems the earcup is too small.- dumbttt

AKG 240 vs ATH M50
I decided it to replace the 5 year old Sennheiser EH 350 because its uncomfortable. I have narrowed my options down to K240 and M50, budget is $150, headphone will be for general purpose music/TV/movie use on my PC with onboard sound. I will consider adding a sound card later as necessary...- dumbttt

Upgrading from Sennheiser EH350, any good suggestions?
Budget would be around $150 or so. M50 would be close enough for this budget. I prefer to go for something more like $75, but could spend up to budget for the right headphone. I would be happy with something that sounds better that EH350, and more comfortable.- dumbttt

Upgrading from Sennheiser EH350, any good suggestions?
Need to replace my Sennheiser EH350 since the cables are broken. I am generally happy with the sound quality of EH350, just wish it could have been a little more comfortable on the ears. I don't do any audio-related work, headphone is strictly for listening to musics, watching TV shows, etc on...- dumbttt
