The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
I have the Ulan 8-wire in hand. Further Alter Ego cable observations should commence soon. At this point I’ve spent good time with AE and can reasonably say it is the best daily use professional/hifi in ear monitor I’ve ever heard. It’s technically proficient and tonally correct (for me). (And...- UnknownOperator

I have updated Alter Ego cable pairing observations for anyone interested. Thanks and credit to Leo @MusicTeck for doing the homework and conducting the afore-referenced full scale cable investigation. As it’s been reported around town, with references to @Chang SG Audio’s Ulan 8-wire silver...- UnknownOperator

I like hearing this. Once I get the Alter Ego settled. I’ll try the two silver cables with the Monachaa set.- UnknownOperator

If there is already ambient background noise, I’m not sure that anyone neighboring you would pick up the leakage. However, if it’s a more intimate setting, like sitting next to someone on the couch, or in bed, then yes. They’ll hear it. -

It’s grown on me. It drives everything I have so well. I actually like Singularity with it more than I did with the N30LE. At first, it will seem like Class AB presents more visceral low end, but after about 100 hours, things smooth out and Class A resembles what I’m familiar with a Class A...- UnknownOperator

With the Thanos and BA Cyclone 8-wire cables, the stage opens up noticeably, but neither cable are exactly a solution to the very smooth and understated treble presentation. I’m still trying to figure that out and I suspect that something silver is the way to go.- UnknownOperator

Yep. As I just commented on the extended mix of A.S.O.’s “Go On” becoming a staple of my test tracks playlist, the hi res FLAC of “Dark & Long” is one of the first few tracks I go to for sub bass and soundstage calibration. And it factored into my analysis of the Monachaa and Alter Ego as driven...- UnknownOperator

Melodic Artification Alter Ego Discussion and Impression Thread
As I have completed preliminary cable & ear tip trials for the Alter Ego, I will be copying some of my early impression posts from the Watercooler thread over to this space. Apologies for the redundancy. I am very fortunate to have grabbed a pair of these as soon as I did. My serial number... -

I completed my cable & ear tip trials for the Alter Ego and Monachaa. Thanks to Leo at @MusicTeck for the recs. The Flash Acoustics Thanos is staying with the Monachaa and that combination, along with the R8II, is the chain to beat for me. While I have owned a few $3k+ monitors (Anni23 and Odin...- UnknownOperator

Interesting. I tried these first, but the top end was a bit too sharp. However, I may circle back to them again down the line after I hit 200+ hours. As it stands, the E Pros and my ear anatomy give me an airtight seal and a really nice low (and lower mid) presentation without spoiling the staging.- UnknownOperator

This matches my impressions of the outward leakage. Nevertheless, I believe it is a keeper. Looking forward to your long form review.- UnknownOperator

Have you run it off the R8II? That’s been my source so far. I still need to throw the Navigator into the mix. I tried pairing my AE with the Flash Acoustics Thanos and I have a Beat Audio Cyclone on the way. I am going to continue to play with accessories this weekend to see what direction that...- UnknownOperator

I let the Alter Ego cook all day. Listening on the default setting, they are very easy to enjoy and connect with music. Really good balance from the low end through the mid frequencies. Nothing is distracting. They throw a wide stage. The open backs leave a lot of room for everything to have its...- UnknownOperator

Excellent. I’m going to do one as well. I love it. I’ve had multiple moments where I’m floored by this set, especially during musical passages where a kick drum or bass line drops in. Monachaa is an easy recommendation from me, and if someone has the means to pair it with the Alter Ego, I don’t...- UnknownOperator

I cannot compare them as I’ve never heard either, but I set the AE set down with the R8II playing and I could hear Shara Nelson (Massive Attack’s “Safe from harm”) singing “you can free my mind” from the other room. Downtown Chicago. Traffic and the train not far from my (closed) windows. Not a...- UnknownOperator

They went in my ears after an hour with the Monachaas. The synergy between the Monachaas, E Pro Horns, Thanos, and R8II makes for my favorite quick and agile low end presentation (I have not ripped the plastic off the Titan so we’ll see where this ends up). But, yes, the bass is very good. It’s...- UnknownOperator
