My recent test with kernel streaming in XP is that I need to reboot my computer for other applications than foobar2000 to work after I use it once. Some bug somewhere.. I need finally backup all stuff so I can switch to linux or vista.

MHdtLab Paradisea+ ($559-$599 and can be found from ebay). Its NOS tube buffer dac with usb,coax,toslink input and rca output.

Computer(FLAC) -> DAC -> AMP -> HEADPHONES = EXCELLENT Sound differences: how your computer is configured, what program you use, what operating system you use, what dac you use, what amp you use, what headphones you use and what cables you use

For movies its fine but for music i prefer meier audio crossfeed implementation.

Same kind of high quality usb converter as Hagtech USB to Spdif converter is Trends UD-10 USB audio converter. It has usb input and coax(rca+bnc),optical,aes/ebu output.

Noticed that you save $40 if you dont need USB input $559 for new Paradisea vs $599 for paradisea+. Thats cost of shipping

Just to add that I belong to SOURCE FIRST camp If you have bit-perfect digital signal and do have crappy dac then you have crappy analog signal and since this is the one you amplify to your phones you cant make it good no matter how good amp you had.

If you believe what manufacturer tells then there is no improvement between da100 and da220 if you only use unbalanced. There is maybe bit if you compare da100 and da220mk2 (like 5% mentioned earlier).

Well for me its problem with 1 cd not holding enough music (i hate swapping cds). I have dac so i can use computer to play music.

I will add that i bought my modded one from lawrence in HK then switched opamps myself. Eddie Wu also sells modded ones and opamps in HK (dont know if they are similar mods than lawrence or not).

As far i know 2 2604 opamps are for balanced output and 1 for unbalanced. 4 opamps are for something i dont really know but i they come standard as NE5534P i think so they are not dual opamps. I have replaced those 4 with OPA637AP and unbalanced opamp with OPA627AM*2(its single output opamp but...

So is this dac worth considering under $1000 range? I know there is lavry da10 also but i have not found anything else so far.
