CanJam SoCal 2016 Impressions Thread (March 19-20, 2016)
The final version of the Liquid Spark will be about 4mm thinner and about 1cm shorter and just about the same width, with rounded corners. So hopefully that will work better with your cargo shorts. :)- weirdfishes

AKG K550 VS. AKG Q701
I guess many would say the K550s are a closed version of the K/Q701. That means the soundstage isn't as wide, but you get isolation and bass.- weirdfishes

Dynamic, orthodynamic, and electrostatic - Your top picks for each
I think you nailed it on the head. I would go with LCD-3 for number 2, but you mentioned that. Spot on.- weirdfishes

Is it supposed to do that?
Loudness is usually determined by impedance (higher needs voltage, lower needs current), sensitivity, and gain, assuming things like isolation and hearing are the same.- weirdfishes

Sennheiser HD 800: Are they worth the premium? Or are the overrated?
HD800s are one of the greatest headphones on the planet, and probably have the most detail of any dynamic driver-based headphone, and best soundstage of any headphone period, except for maybe the AKG K1000. You need proper amplification to drive them (600 ohm impedance, so you want lots of...- weirdfishes

HD600 vs. DT880 for classical
Quote: DT880s are the most comfortable pair of headphones I own. The fit like they sound - light and airy. For the OP, having owned both at some point, I would say that if you prefer an airy, even sparkly balanced sound, the DT880s are better, while if you would rather go without...- weirdfishes

Headphones 300 or under, used or new, for music and games
For closed full-size cans @ $300, I would say Mr. Speakers Mad Dog and it's not even close. Orthodynamic drivers so you'll need your amp to properly drive it. Read the Mad Dog appreciation thread and you'll see what others have said. ...- weirdfishes

2013 best heaphone (Under 300) for music.
I would like to chime in here and say, for $300, closed headphone, the hands-down clear winner is Mr. Speaker's Mad Dog. It's exactly $300, and you won't regret getting them.- weirdfishes

No idea what to choose earphone wise
Wow, gonna have to at least narrow your options down a bit by price, unless money is no issue? Many swear that the Tralucent 1+2 are the best IEMs on the planet, while others say custom-fitted buds are the way to go, but both options will run you clear of a cool grand. IOW, I think you're...- weirdfishes

Amp Dac combo or amp and dac?
Assuming you want to spend the same amount in either situation, I would say in general, a separate amp will give you more gain for hard to drive cans and will probably be a better amp than an DAC/amp combo. High impedance cans need voltage. The downside is that you lose some portability factor...- weirdfishes

AKG Q701 vs V Moda M100 vs Sony MDR-1R vs Sennheiser Momentum
This is kind of a weird poll because the Q701s are open cans, and feel out of place here. That said, if you don't mind the slight bump at 2KHz, then Q701s are pretty neutral and detailed. I love my pair.- weirdfishes

Looking for closed headphones that are neutral, highly detailed and have a large soundstage
What you're describing sounds like a Fostex TH-900, currently one of the best dynamic headphones, closed or open. Detailed, wide, natural, with good bass response. But $2400.- weirdfishes

Okay just wanna contribute my 2c about the LA Meet before I lose the chance. First off, thanks to Warren and Ethan for the hard work they put in. I think it totally paid off in spades. I pretty much agree with everyone in the thread about what a great time it was. This was my second...- weirdfishes

Official Los Angeles Regional Summer Meet - Saturday, July 20, 2013 Warner Center Marriott, Woodland Hills
Hey all, As someone who will be attending, I have 2 ideas to liven up the meet. DJ spinning tunes whose signals are cabled to anyone who wants the signal. Anyone who is tapped in would be listening to the same thing, like a silent disco. People would take turns spinning whatever they...- weirdfishes

Unofficial CES 2013 Impressions Thread
More pics of the Ferraris. I concur with Warren: the T350 gets a big thumbs up in frequency response and detail. The T250, not so much (less detail, highs roll-off).- weirdfishes

Unofficial CES 2013 Impressions Thread
In case anyone was curious, I wanted to post about 2 known audio brands who were venturing out into cans: Kicker (famous car audio subs) and Nakamichi (tape decks?). Kicker made some effort into the build of the cans, but they sounded very meh. Poor detail, flabby bass. The higher end...- weirdfishes
