Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

There are many subtle aspects to this, but he's probably referring to the use of brakes as a weight transfer tool, so you can stay on the outer perimeter of your traction circle as much as possible (eg. trail braking). Braking is often the last thing any driver masters, even in the professional...

The true cost-no-object accessories for Porsches are their option list, but not just the regular option list where you can add over $100k to a base Boxster, but the secret menu and the off-menu items: CXX being secret-menu, and the $2k photobook of your car being manufactured being the off-menu...

This made me go back and find this classic post by Jason about his time at Sumo, and all the things he was up to before Schiit. It's a great read, as usual. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/schiit-happened-the-story-of-the-worlds-most-improbable-start-up.701900/post-10216705

Oh man, that's so sad. I attended a couple of his PDQ Bach performances in the early 90s, and the man was a riot! I need to put on one of his albums tonight. He was also a serious composer in addition to his PDQ Bach stuff.

Also, are you using the same AC wallwart in the new MM as in the old one? Ie. you just swapped MMs, and used the same wall wart? It might be worth swapping wall warts too if that's the case because that could be causing the issue.

Sorry I just thought of a few more to add to the list: Piety, Pietus Max, and the RAAL Jotunheim?

I have a pair of these too! I had no idea anyone else had them. Now in storage, but they actually ran OK with a cheap old Sony receiver. I think ET originally had recommended them with a Radio Shack amp. They were used nearfield, so didn't need much power to get pretty loud.

I think it's a little more nuanced than that.

Sorry to be That Guy (tm) but I don't think that's what they're doing. What they're doing is finding the smallest precision volume coefficient that when multiplied against a sample gets close enough to the desired attenuation level. Some background: when computers do integer multiplication of...

Me too! I have less rarified stuff than you guys, but a club member has a 130 Starfire that he brings out for public star parties (albeit using it only for EAA), and the two local places we do our public star parties have a TEC 200FL and an AP 180 they let the public look through. Currently, I'm...

Yeah, it's all kind of silly. There was a Twitter account called Internet of [redacted] (pronounced like Schiit except spelled the OG way) that showed all the stupid things that happen to otherwise normal objects (eg. blinds) that had network connectivity. There's lots more to talk about this...

Also a reminder that we're old! I read about the Archimedes (the predecessor to the Arm-based computers) in the old computer magazines when I had a Commodore 64. One estimate is that there are over 230 billion Arm CPUs that's been made so far. No surprise considering the very first iPhone...

I'm not sure what Schiit (or anyone else) can do that's meaningfully different from a Pi2AES. The enclosure will be an issue as well as the power supply, not to mention the software issues that will inevitably come up even if you make it compatible with an existing hat (like the Pi2AES is). You...

There are really great pieces of music in that collection, and some (Stravinsky's Apollon musagète) that aren't recorded very often. It's funny that I associate Marriner and ASMF with early Romantic music at the latest, and mostly with classical and baroque music (eg. Bach, Mozart, earlier...

That's right: don't use USB on anything earlier than a Pi 4 because of bus contention issues that can cause actual audible issues like dropouts.

I like Overcast as well as the Apple native app, but I don't know what people outside of our beautiful walled garden might use. At home, the Logitech Music Server can fetch podcasts too, but it feels a little rudimentary.

The homebrew Pi path definitely needs careful treading to find a reliable setup. For me, I never liked Volumio because it was flakey and had odd UX behavior, but Picore has been really solid for me. The only time I had to reboot it voluntarily (ie. not counting power outages) was recently when a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

It is Nyquist limited for the initial sampling (the ADC for example) so that the conversion to point samples doesn't create aliasing. However, conversion to point sample form creates images of the LPFed signal at integer multiples of the sampling rate, so any resampling from its point sampled...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

To expand on this, all digital signal reconstruction needs a low pass filter (LPF) below Nyquist (half the sampling frequency) that basically takes the images (replicas of the baseband signal at integer multiples of the sampling frequency) to below the noise floor before Nyquist: we're basically...
