    NEW Fostex TR-70, TR-80 & TR-90

Well I got the TR-80-250 earlier this week. I was disappointed at the build of these. They looked great in the photos. I was expecting it would be at least on par with the less expensive RP series but the plastics are a step down. Although the headband appears the same it's not as...

    NEW Fostex TR-70, TR-80 & TR-90

The type of driver technology used is a fairly insignificant factor in the overall performance of a headphone. That's like saying Usain Bolt is fast because he's tall. It takes much more than that to achieve greatness.

    NEW Fostex TR-70, TR-80 & TR-90

I was wanting full-size and something that could stand up to abuse. I decided to take a chance on the TR-80 250. Whether or not I decide to keep it I will be publishing a full review. Curious to see how it fairs against my beloved DT 770. People seem to hate on the treble of the 770 but I've...

    NEW Fostex TR-70, TR-80 & TR-90

I love everything about my T50RP MK III from the build (excluding the pads) to the sound signature but am looking for a closed-back option for work environments. I know I can just get a T40RP but I would like to experience something different from the Fostex lineup. I am interested in the TR-80...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

All of the headphones your asking about will benefit from having proper amplification. I think you should look at spending at least $60-100 on a budget amp, it is worth it. Otherwise I would suggest going with "lower end" options.

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Hey guys I got myself a T40RP MK3 on sale at my local AV place. I have a gift card I plan to use for some replacement ear pads but not sure which to get. I was wondering if anyone can confirm if any of these would fit or not.   Beyerdynamic EDT 770 S Beyerdynamic EDT 990 VB Audio Technica...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

I noticed the 880/990 pads are identical, but the 770 ones are different. The padding is denser and the velour is not as plush and has some sort of vinyl like inner layer. Overall the 990/880 ones are more comfortable but the 770's offer more isolation.

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

The peak threw me off initially, but I did get used to it. It really only creeps in when cranking volume in certain busy tracks. I did mess with EQ and found a simple fix by lowering 4-5 db in the 8-10khz range. But then found it affects clarity and detail on other more intimate tracks. So I...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

The Fiio E12 is likely the best to start with. I would avoid portable DAC/AMP combos, especially in that price range. You will get better bang for the buck with desktop options, even in that price range (more inputs/outputs, full size RCA and 1/4 inch inputs). There are plenty of sleek and...

    TEAC UD-H01 USB DAC

The amp section is not really a strength of this, it's primarily a DAC. That being said it's ok for dynamic driver headphones under 250-300 Ohm. Forget about planars though. The amp gets outperformed by my $60 Chineese SMSL SAP III. This is the case with most DAC/AMPs, it's always better to get...

Reply to review by 'rigodeni' on item 'Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro 250 OHM Semi-open reference headphone'

@slaphead I did audition the K/Q 701/702 line and actually prefer the K612 Pro overall, especially for the price. Bass on the 701/702's is anemic. I've also auditioned the HD650 extensively at head-fi meets, they sound identical to me. Any difference was more to do with amplification, which both...

I agree the 990's sound signature is more dissimilar to the HD 600 than the 880 is. However, it's dissimilar in ways I personally don't like. That is my subjective opinion, and I am entitled to it ;). If you ask me the DT 770 is the best compliment to the HD 600 among all the Beyers, largely...

I am working on my DT 990 Premium (250 Ohm) review now. I can say for sure the 880 is the better headphone in all aspects. It will likely be the first I will be selling off. The 880 I find is not that picky with sources/amps either, they sound equally great on everything I've run them on.

Thanks. Both are spectacular and definitely the top 2 in my collection. Sadly my HD600's have the cracked headband and are starting to chip paint in places. I am much more confident the DT 880 Pro will stand the test of time in terms of durability. I'm not even hard on my gear, so working...

Yes there is a difference, I have not tried those in particular but I would stick to genuine Beyer pads. Consider how long you will use them, the price is justified. I find the velour is more plush, among other things. Anything but originals will alter the sound properties also.

    TEAC UD-H01 USB DAC

FYI the review is now posted, link in my signature. I ended up testing the DT 880 Pro with my TEAC as the DAC and newly acquired Schiit Valhala as the amp.

I would generally not recommend tubes. They are definitely less efficient and require a bit of care and maintenance. Not for the faint of heart. The results people get with tubes also vary greatly because tubes can sound quite unique. It becomes an issue of amp and headphone pairing, and the...

Looking for a musical DT880 alternative

    DT880 dissatisfaction?

I own the whole DT series and the HD 600. I recently did a complete comparison in my DT 880 Pro 250 Ohm review. I don't think the HD6xx series are a worthwhile upgrade. In fact it's a downgrade in some areas. I would start looking at your DAC and more importantly your amp. Cheaper solid state...

    DT880 vs DT990 | Comparison & Review

I recently posted a review of the DT 880 Pro. I also own the DT 990 Premium 250 Ohm. I agree with your findings. However, after experimenting with EQ a bit I did get the 990 to be quite enjoyable. A simple -2db at 6khz, -6db at 8khz, and -3db at 10khz worked wonders for me.
