    Speaker amps for headphones

You need a set of speaker taps to connect to the amp speaker outs, and a balanced cable for your cans to attach to the speaker taps.  You could make one cable that connects directly to the amp, but then you would have to unhook the 4 wires from the amp and rehook different ones each time you...

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

You might want to browse this thread:   http://www.head-fi.org/t/649107/speaker-amps-for-headphones   There's a whole amplifier universe for you to explore, if you are bold enough...

    Speaker amps for headphones

Folks:   Just a quick note to let you know that my experiment with my Nikko NA-890 continues, and I love this thing.  Periodic age-related noise aside, I think it is actually better than the Odyssey Cyclops in driving the LCD-3s. I'm running it through my Mills resistor box (another source of...

    Speaker amps for headphones

The HD600 and 650 should behave pretty much the same, since I think they use the same drivers, just damped/tuned differently.    As I recall, there are some precautions to be taken if you use resistors with certain kinds of amps, (bridged vs, unbridged???) but the experts on here need to...

    Speaker amps for headphones

I got mine off Amazon from Shenzen:   http://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-Version-balance-ZY-002-2-5M/dp/B00A2QJLY8/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1406087641&sr=8-11&keywords=hd650+cable   It's a really nice cable.  I have to believe Shenzen will ship one to Australia for about the same price (in USD).

    Speaker amps for headphones

Straight off the taps, nothing in between except wire.  Easily controllable with the dial between 7:30 and 8:30 on the Cyclops (110 wpc into 8 ohms).  Brings the HD650s to life, definitely not "dark" particularly using the Nikko (70 wpc into 8 ohms).  Listening to RHCP on the Cyclops right now. ...

    Speaker amps for headphones

Duckman:   Usable volume on a normal track is between 7:30 and 8:30 on the dial.  Not much range, but the dial is pretty big, so there's enough control.  I tend not to crank on volume the way I used to -- I'm old, after all -- but even on Red Hot Chili Peppers there should be enough control...

    Speaker amps for headphones

I use HD650s directly fed (no resistors... resistors are futile) from both my Odyssey Cyclops and ancient Nikko integrated amp, with no hiss, excellent sound.

    KOSS ESP-950 Thread

Anybody interested in a pair of ESP-950s with maybe 100 hours on them and no issues last time I tried them (7 months ago) for $600 shipped anywhere in the continental US should PM me.  I like them, but prefer my LCDs, and need the cash to feed my other habit -- orchard equipment.  Any of you who...

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

"Just wanted to mention that after placing my order they took nearly a week before shipping it out. They said that they thoroughly check their DC-1s for international order. Not sure what they check for."   Ahhh.. that's just the NSA adding a listening device to your listening device... no big...

    Speaker amps for headphones

Folks:   I figured I'd give you an update on the Nikko NA-890 after about a month.  I still love the thing, most of the time.  I tried it without the resistors in the chain (I just connected the tap into the input jacks of the resistor box where the speaker wire was already attached) and it...

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

You want an eye-opening education?  Read the following thread:   http://www.head-fi.org/t/649107/speaker-amps-for-headphones   There will be a test...(which I would fail...).

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

Honoured (or "honored" to translate for those in the US)?  Thanks, but all I did was spend my holidays listening to DACs, writing wordy posts and getting abused for it.  Anybody could have done that.   In any case, you might find the "analog" sound you are seeking in Metrum products.  The...

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

My side-by-side testing indicated that nothing out there is going to "blow the DC-1 out of the water" as a DAC.  As folks have posted here recently, the differences in modern DACs are very subtle once you get to the DC-1's capabilities.    I agree that the HP amp in the DC-1 is pretty...

    Speaker amps for headphones

And speaking of stuff I already owned...   I was at my elderly parents' place last weekend, and my mother asked me if I could take a box up to the attic.  While I was up there, I did a little lookin' 'round, and found my old Nikko NA-890 integrated amp from the late 1970s that I had given them...

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

You won't find a better fit for your new needs at any price close to what you can get a DC-1 for these days.  Yeah, the volume is stepped in .25 dB increments, but most HT receivers are stepped in .5 dB increments, so the Emo is actually better than most receivers in that regard.  The DC-1...

I don't know about the Yulong D100, but it sounds very similar to the Yulong DA8 on that unit's sharp setting.

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

As I understand how the DC-1's pre-amp functions, at the zero dB setting it is putting out ~2 volts, which is the industry standard (a standard that most DAC manufacturers (including Emo) do not exactly comply with (or in some cases even come close to), though as I recall, the DC-1 was at least...

    Speaker amps for headphones

Mike:   I don't know that the Mills resistors will address the loss of resolution/dynamics you are hearing, since they are the same values as the concrete resistors.  I don't hear these particular problems with my Senns using the Millenia, but I'm driving the TBI amp using the AC brick, and I...

    Speaker amps for headphones

Folks:   Just wanted to say that I am currently listening to the HD-650s driven by the TBI MIllenia MG-3 using the Mills resistor box, and I can say that for the HD-650s, I like this particular combination MUCH more than I like either the MIllenia/concrete resistors or the Odyssey Cyclops. ...

    KOSS ESP-950 Thread

Note that there is no way to add the Koss ESP-950s to your cart on the Headphones.com site.  It has been that way for at least a year, though it is possible that it comes and goes.  I called them about it over a year ago, and they confirmed that they did not stock/sell those cans at that time. ...
