Unlike the 900's the DX3's sounded horrible out of the box. At 30 hours now they are beginning to shine! An unbelievable sound for $110 (freight included) headphones. I still might do the mods though. Thanks for everyones feedback on the modifications.

Actually, on music with bass drums I eq my amp about -3 db. The drums then sound more realistic and they then do not interfere with the highs and mids.

I have an older Sony CE375 and it outperforms my CD5001 with the optical output especially in soundstage, highs and detail. However with analog output the marantz is better.

I really like my Harman/Kardon AV receiver. The headphone output is outstanding and beats the highly acclaimed Marantz CD5001 output using optical cables.
