London Head-Fi Meet April 2013
I'd also like to add my own huge thanks to Nadeem and Sennheiser for a great meet, and extend it to all of the people who brought along your rigs and patiently let me listen to them. This was the first time I've been to a meet, and I didn't really know what to expect. Walking into the posh...- Threeek

Reply to review by 'threeek' on item 'iFi iCAN headphone amplifier'
Thanks for a great review, I bit the bullet and bought an iCAN on the strength of this, then enjoyed 3 days waiting for it to arrive while worrying if I'd done the right thing - I'm not a big fan of deviating far from the original sound, so I had some reservations. I have a decent speaker based...- Threeek

Thanks for that Rich, I'll watch out for the next Whittlebury Hall one when it comes around - it's not too far away.- Threeek

A headphone shoot-out from a speaker listener - Testing eleven headphones from £ 80 to £ 1,200
I enjoyed reading this review, very interesting and well written. Thank you! I'm considering going for the he-400 or he-500 at some point in the future. I'm going to make sure I actually get to see a current model before making a purchase, so I can ensure I'm happy with the build quality...- Threeek

Simple, low cost, HiFi network music streaming device
Quote: I've never had a problem with several Linux boxes and different DACs before - In my experience the noise problem is exclusive to the Raspberry Pi. As a Unix sysadmin I have to defend Linux, it's wonderful! :-) I hope it goes well with the TPLINK - good luck!- Threeek

Simple, low cost, HiFi network music streaming device
Quote: I read about that on an Amazon review, but I got the impression that it isn't an issue with newer ones. Hopefully they've addressed it in the production process - I'm well out of practice on my soldering.- Threeek

Thanks very much for the answers and ongoing research on this, it sounds like just what I want. I've bitten the bullet and ordered one from China now, though it's going to take a while to turn up.- Threeek

Simple, low cost, HiFi network music streaming device
That's impressive, I'm really glad to hear you've had success with the Android stick, I'm very interested in doing something similar. Please can I ask: 1) How long has it been up and running for now? 3) Is the audio stable without glitches? 2) What sort of temperature...- Threeek

Raspberry Pi & DIY
I tried both of my DACs with and without a powered hub and it made no difference to the noise. In its current state, I feel that the Pi doesn't seem suitable as an audio solution unfortunately. It's always possible that this issue could be debugged and fixed by someone in the Linux community in...- Threeek

Review by 'Threeek' on item 'Sony MDR-1R'
I've listened to these for ~30 hours now, and despite them being a little warmer than I expected I've come to really appreciate their easy going sound signature. The mid-bass is a little pronounced, but it's enjoyable rather than overwhelming - I certainly wouldn't describe them as a bass-head...- Threeek

Sony has new headphones, MDR-1R
Soundisee, 'better' is completely subjective - they're both good 'phones, and in the end it's personal taste that will dictate which headphone signature is best for you. Having owned both, I feel that the MDR1r has a warmer, more euphonic and relaxed sound with more bass. The DT880 on the...- Threeek

Sony has new headphones, MDR-1R
Quote: I agree with this, I found the DT880 squashed the cartilage on my ear - they'd be ok for a couple of hours, but then I'd have to not wear them for a while as my ears were too sore. I find the MDR-1R very comfortable - they disappear. Ultimately we all have different shaped ears...- Threeek

Raspberry Pi & DIY
I also had pops, clicks and digital noise using Squeezeplug on my R-Pi. I had the same problem with both an ODAC and then with my HDP. In the end I'm afraid I gave up trying to use the R-Pi, and got a Shuttle XS36V and installed Ubuntu on it to use as my bedside streamer. Possibly...- Threeek

Sony has new headphones, MDR-1R
Ah, something I can comment on at last - I have both :-) The Pro 750 also sits around the ear, and is in the same sort of price range, but that is where the similarities end. I've just bought a pair of the standard Sony silver 1r 'phones, and have only had <3 hours listening so far, so...- Threeek

I've really enjoyed reading this thank you. I'm never going to get to hear most of these headphones for myself, but I feel like I might begin to have some idea what I could expect now. As a relatively humble AHD-5000 owner, it has made me want to save up for some LCD-2s next :-)- Threeek

NECO SOUNDLABS PORTABLE V.2 AMP
Having read the positive impressions in this thread, and seeing the price, I decided to take a gamble and buy the V3 portable with the AD8610 op-amps and Li-ion batteries for use at work. Raspberry Pi & DIY
Update: I've now got my Raspberry Pi working as a Squeezebox streamer with squeezeslave and my E-DAC. I had a problem in that squeezeslave couldn't see any sound devices when I ran 'squeezeslave -L'.
