Any headphone amps small enough to sit right on the jack?
I use an old cell phone (offline) and a pair of sporta pro's when I walk every night. It's an ancient phone with a weak headphone out. I could use about one more click on the volume to be totally satisfied. I don't want 10 feet of wires stuffed into my pocket, or the extra bulk of piggybacking...- cam94z28

Nobsound NS-08E also know as Nobsound 6J9 hybrid tube amp
Just wanted to mention a weird "feature" of this amp with stock tubes. On lower impedance/higher sensitivity headphones it seems to remove bass, but on less sensitive, slightly higher impedance headphones, like my ancient Philips SHP895's, it actually adds bass, compared to a SS amp. Maybe it...- cam94z28

Nobsound NS-08E also know as Nobsound 6J9 hybrid tube amp
I actually found this place near me. They supposedly have 3.5 million tubes in stock, over 2000 different types, in a 7500sq. ft. warehouse. I emailed them, and they have Amperex 6688 JAN, for $7 each. I will be picking up a few on Friday. http://www.thetubecenter.com/contact_thetubecenter.html- cam94z28

Nobsound NS-08E also know as Nobsound 6J9 hybrid tube amp
Just got this little amp, and I'm already amazed! I've always had a "problem" with my ears, where either mine are more sensitive than everyone else, or they are about 10x more sensitive to sibilance, and "beaming" mids than most people. To the point that there is a physical reaction in my...- cam94z28

t50rp: is the treble peak @ ~10k as bad as it looks?
After hearing a sound demo of the t50rp mk3's on z reviews YouTube channel i was floored. I could even hear the airyness, and ambience that they produced compared to something like the hd600, demoed on the same yt Channel. After looking at a frequency graph though, there is a crazy peak around...- cam94z28

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones
Sorry for not reading all 9 pages, but just in case it wasn't mentioned, The M560 are apparently "convertible" headphones. They have magnetic cups, and can be converted from closed to open. Still not worth $199 to be the guinea pig, though.- cam94z28

Koss UR55...unbearably bright and harsh?!
It makes sense that they might be running themselves a bit thin, in order to stay afloat. You are right, I'm sure their entry level "walkman grade" headphones don't use the titanium drivers. They also had an older model of 'behind-the-ear' sport headphones that sounded like garbage. But the Pro4...- cam94z28

Is there a current equivalent to the Koss UR55's?
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've found that headphones of that design just do not work for me. With the flat earpad, and "mesh" in the center, the driver is just too close to my ear. It causes everything to sound harsh to my ears. I already have a pair of HD228's, and they are absolutely...- cam94z28

Koss UR55...unbearably bright and harsh?!
Well, my first pair of (defective) UR55's were from a 3rd party seller, but shipped by Amazon Prime (Fullfillment by Amazon). I made sure the replacement pair was "sold and shipped" by Amazon, and they were good. I believe my SportaPro's were also 3rd party Amazon fulfillment, and they were...- cam94z28

Koss UR55...unbearably bright and harsh?!
I didn't catch that part about Amazon. Actually, now that I think back, my very first pair from Amazon came in defective, but may have been fake. They played like they were halfway unplugged. They sounded like an 8-bit mp3, with no bass and an echo to everything, until I squeezed the little "Y"...- cam94z28

Koss UR55...unbearably bright and harsh?!
Unless you're in public, try sliding the headband further back (past the highest point) on your head, and then tightening the headband. They look funny, but work just fine that way. The drivers aren't angled, as far as I know, so it won't have an effect on sound, either. My experience has...- cam94z28

Is there a current equivalent to the Koss UR55's?
I have 20-25 pairs of headphones on hand and i keep coming back to the UR55's, my sportapro's and sometimes the more congested HD203 II's. The problem is, the wire is pulling out of one of the earcups, and one of the strain reliefs broke off at the earup. These are getting harder and harder to...- cam94z28

Reply to review by 'cam94z28' on item 'Schiit Vali'
I could maybe understand why a warm/bassy amp would sound bad with bassy cans (DJ100's), but the fact that the HD650's sounded bad has me scratching my head. I'd have to guess that you might have been more used to and favorable of the sound of your Q701's, and it may have skewed your opinion of...- cam94z28

Are there two different models of ur55? Second pair has Silver grilles????
I recently bought a pair of Koss UR55's because i had a buying itch, and I remember them sounding good in the past. I stupidly returned them for the DJ100's, which I didn't like. I had to return my first pair, because they had a defect/short in the in-line Y-fitting that goes from single to...- cam94z28

The NEW JVC HA-S400. Affordable Carbon Nanotube cans for the masses.
Just FWIW. Assuming these links display in english. Both of these links within the JVC web site are listing the s600's as being "Carbon-Nanotubes-Headphones". Listed in both the category, and the title. http://www.jvc.ro/product.php?id=HA-S600-E&catid=100138 ...- cam94z28

worth trying to fix brand new defective koss ur55? (defective cable)
I'll leave this here in case anyone else has the same issue. I managed to, at least temporarily, fix mine, I think. I figured since if I squeezed the Y-fitting, I would get sound, that would be my starting point. I took a sock, and a pair of vice grips. Wrapped the sock around the edge of...- cam94z28

worth trying to fix brand new defective koss ur55? (defective cable)
I had a recent urge to get a few cheaper pairs of decent cans, and decided on the Koss ur55 and Beyer dt235. The Beyers sound a lot better than i expected (I'm sensitive to sibilance). They have a really unique sound which is addicting. I don't know why they don't get more love around here. If...- cam94z28

The NEW JVC HA-S400. Affordable Carbon Nanotube cans for the masses.
I have the HT21's and didn't really like the sound. They sound very thin and muffled, IMO, and they have that closed can honky-ness in the mids that I can't stand. I am not a fan of forward mids (in the vocal range), so some people may like them. I ended up with the HA-S600's, which are...- cam94z28

Welcome back to head-fi! I think there will be a few people with your cans, but I doubt there will be a shortage of people wanting to listen to the HD650's.
