Yulong Sabre D18 thread: reviews, impressions, discussion (full review added 2/5)
Thanks so much for clarifying on those comparisons! I think Yulong himself was serious about the fuse, as he actually wrote out his plan of looking into making a general upgrade for all the coming D18.- Philharmoniker

Quote: I was hoping to hear a comparison with something most people are familiar with but I have not heard, like Benchmark or even V800. As for the fuse, I will try translating some of the discussions from the forum. I am quite perplexed as well.... So according to this post, which...- Philharmoniker

The Yulong Forum on Erji.net has recently had a long discussion over the role of the fuse in the sound quality of D18 and seems to have reached a consensus that a modification of the fuse to a higher amperage could enhance the sound. I did not read all the discussions completely, but Yulong...- Philharmoniker

Wonderfully written review! Would you be expanding this in the future with more comparisons to other DACs?- Philharmoniker

best DAC under $700 to use with violectric V200 and HD800?
So your headphone is 1500 dollars, and your amp is around 1000. I don't think you should stoop down to 700 for your DAC, unless you go for used ones.- Philharmoniker

One of the most detailed and well written reviews ever. I do agree with you on the slowing of the attacks, and I think that does different things to people with different needs. For me it makes listening quite more enjoyable due to its non-fatiguing ability. I love it. WUB IT.- Philharmoniker

Great impression! Are you using XLR or RCA out? I think the designer made a point to mention that the RCA out gives a more "hi-fi" sound while the XLR gives a more technical sound, and the difference is due to the combining of the hot and cold ends on the RCA. Waiting to hear more from your...- Philharmoniker

Quote: I guess I should have rephrased what I said. I meant to say that they don't look like the $100+ XLR cables you get from HIFI dealers. I don't mean that they are "not that great" in terms of sound. In fact I can't compare because I have never used an expensive one. As for the...- Philharmoniker

Fiio E9 for DT990? I really think your DT990 deserves better... I think by getting a headphone amp cheaper than your headphone you are not fully exploiting its potential at all.- Philharmoniker

So I just got my XLR cables from monoprice. They are not that great, but I am quite impressed by the XLR output comparing to the RCA out of D18 so far. I find it rather accurate what Xiaolong himself said about the two outputs. While the XLR out is more technical and wider and broader...- Philharmoniker

I opened up the case with Sonic77's help and found a loose screw in there. After taking some pics of the board and personally sending it Xiaolong over IM, we agreed that the screw was just put in there carelessly during assembly and did not fall off from the board. He was very helpful with it. ...- Philharmoniker

I think it is working, since when I remove SOX upsampling from the list of DSP and then play the same track there is a brief (500ms) pause. There is a slight difference in the sound, but I do need to listen longer to tell the difference. Quote:- Philharmoniker
