great, thanks jp and warp for the clarification.  i'm just happy we'll be able to plug in the 16s standalone.  makes the 6 hour charge limitation on the 3a not as critical of a problem.  It still sucks but at least i'll have a workaround.

i may have missed this, but does anyone know if standalone JH16 can now be used with the new v2 JH3A? Will JH support buying the JH3A standalone to existing JH16 owners?

The battery life is what it is. I'm not talking about the need to extend battery life, just to provide an alternative AC power option, bypassing battery power. CLAS has it, wasn't the jh3a board design somewhat based on that?

so is ac power planned or was there a technical problem with adding it in? it sounds like when using spdif, the mini usb won't charge, so it's reduced to roughly 5 hours use at a time. Well, even if you're using analog and mini usb to charge, it's kinda silly that you'd have to buy another...
