Stax SR-40. Problem with one side...

My friend got Stax SR-40 electret headphones, same as mine. The problem is that left "speaker" is much more quiet than the right one. We tried it even with my SRD-4 adaptor (his is the same model) - the same problem. I could understand if it wouldn't work at all, but it does work, just very...

Hello. Just got Stax SR40 + SRD4 They work and sound fine, but one thing I' ve just noticed. is that when I move my head, these is some strange noise in one "earphone" - seems like some dust or something else is inside it. Could they be opened, and how, to check what's that? It's a bit...

Cheap Stax - are they worth a try?

Hello. I want to update my headphone collection with a new member - Stax electret headphones. Until now, i've had several dynamic headphones - vintage Pioneer 305SE, Grado SR-60, and now i'm currently using old version of Bayers dt990, but I don't like the bayers bassy and heavy sound, and I...

Cheap Altec Lansing speakers are nice :) How about headphones?

Hi. I have heard some very nice and reasonably cheap sounding computer speakers from Altec Lansing. Did anyone tried their inexpensive hi-fi headphones? How do they compare to cheap Koss / Senns / other headphones?

    Audigy 2/4 and hi-res

It's known that audigy 2 and audigy 4 upsamples 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz by the native chip. But does it downsample to 48 kHz if you use hi-res audio - DVD-Audio with 24/96 or other hi-res audio? Thanks for information.

Do I really need a headphone amp?

Thanks for all comments and opinions. As I understand, we can make an analogy which is a bit similar to differences between inexpensive integrated amp vs. large, powerful expensive pre+power amplifier which is better even if You listen on the modest levels.

Do I really need a headphone amp?

Hello. I'm a bit new in the headphone-world, and I have one question. Here's the situation: now i'm using vintage headphones Pioneer SE-305, and I use it with CD player Marantz through it's headphone out. The sound is ok. But I'm going to changes my 'phones to Grado SR-60. What advantages would...

    Vintage Pioneer vs Cheap AKG

Hello. I'm new in headphone stuff, and all my experience in this is Pioneer 305SE vintage (~1978-1980 year) headphones which I got not a long time ago. These are the same as Pioneer 405 but without volume and tone control. I'm not very happy with these cans - they sound a bit compressed...

Audigy SE - For those in UK

It's known that Audigy SE resamples 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz in software, but how about DVDs - 24/96 - doesn't it downsample from 96 to 48 kHz ?

Audigy SE - For those in UK

I also bought Audigy SE because there was no chance to get AV-710 (or it was very overpriced), and now I enjoy the sound of this inexpensive card. I can't say it is better than my modded old Marantz CD36 player, but it's very hard to identify which one is playing at the moment. I use Winamp +...

Audiotrak Optoplay vs. Creative Live! Is it worth upgrading?

Hello. I'm using my Creative Live! Digital 5.1 with Winamp+ASIO@48kHz right now. I use this setup just for 2ch audio listening through analog output to my stereo amplifier. I know that my soundcard for music listening is "a bit crap", so I thought it would be a good idea to buy a decent, maybe...

Getting best from Creative Live! Digital

I tried the newest kX Project drivers with my Live! card, but there are some serious problems if I use them. So I can't use them. I have some more questions. If I want to get better sound, I need to have ASIO supporting drivers. Don't I? Or is it enough just to have for example Winamp + Asio...

Getting best from Creative Live! Digital

Hello. I need some help with configuring Creative Live! Digital (EMU10K1) and some media player to get the best sound of this configuration that possible. I know that these sound cards are a bit "weak" speaking about sound quality, but I want to give it a try. I have a dedicated source for...

    Foobar Plug-ins for playlist?

Hello. Are there any plug-ins or other stuff to make the Foobar's playlist similar to Winamp's or WMP's playlist? I'm speaking about the dividing to columns - one for artist, other for track name, for album... Thanks for information.

    SACD and DVD-Audio on PC?

Hello. I was reading one article about soundcards, and I found one surprising thing for myself: "It's impossible to play SACD as a PC DVD-ROM is not able to read such discs. As for DVD-Audio, it's sufficient to read data and send them to the card's drivers supporting playback of the 24/96 or...

    Computer vs dedicated sources

After some thinking I decided to buy Audigy 2 Value for video, compressed music and games (computer stuff), and I got decent Marantz CD player. I think it will be better source for 2ch. music listening. Thank You for all opinions and ideas in this topic.

    Computer vs dedicated sources

Thank You for your opinions, and if I may, I'd like to ask another question about resampling. I don't understand one thing - what is the difference between Creative Audigy 2 resampling to 48kHz and ,for example, any of many Hi-end CD players which resample too? Why it is good for dedicated...

    Computer vs dedicated sources

Hello. I'm a new forum member from Lithuania. I have some questions about audio sources. Maybe someone knows some links where I could read some reviews (or comparison tests) between computer-as-source vs. dedicated sources speaking about sound quality (concrete examples), just for interest. I...
