Grado Ps500 vs more popular headphones?

The PS500 was the headphone I used while testing out new DAC/Amp combos as that was the direction I planned to go when I upgrade shortly after 10 years of MS1 use.  I had never heard of it before auditioning it, and was blown away.  Then again I also haven't heard all that many truly high end...

ALO Pan Am desktop/portable headphone amp/DAC: Impressions and Reviews

Once I find a set that I like, should I buy a bunch and hoard them?  Or are you feeling comfortable that you'll be able to replace them when needed every few years through the wonders of the internet?  Mullards should arrive here early in the new year.

ALO Pan Am desktop/portable headphone amp/DAC: Impressions and Reviews

I've got the Pan Am working with all my iDevices now.  Pretty neat transportable setup to take with me on the road (once my passport arrives).  Now I don't even really need to bring my laptop if I can smartly add the right selection of tracks prior to departure.     iPad/iPhone -> Lightning...

ALO The Pan Am - The tube rolling thread

As I'm about to get into the process of tube rolling on the Pan Am, once I find a set that I like should I be buying multiple pairs of them?  How "rare" are these mini tubes now like the Mullards?     The stock Chinese tubes are still much better than listening to my Mac or iDevice straight.

Which set of cans, for the Dave Matthews Band?

Jeez, why all the hate for DMB? Admitedly they aren't my favourite band, but given the number of their discs I have and concerts that I've attended I'm not about to call them a bunch of no talent ass clowns! Their live shows are fantastic, if you are only grading them on their studio work you...

    325i vs SA5K vs K701 vs RS2?

I was just about to make a similar thread, but might as well just join in the fun here! I'm a long time Sony MDR-7506 user, in fact I'm on my second pair currently (first ones were getting rather ratty after roughly a decade of use)! However my listening environment has changed, I no longer...

Your Chance to Get Rolling Stones Tickets Early...UGH!!

I will be doing my damndest to get tickets to see them in Ottawa in late August. Yes, they were over the hill at SARStock and completely overshadowed by AC/DC. I don't care. My new goal in life is to hit the jackpot on May 27th and come up with 4 tickets for Frank Clair Stadium. What's this...

    Unappreciated and/or Little-Known Rock Music

Well, if you aren't in Canada I'd have to say "The Tragically Hip". Of course, I went to school in Kingston (their home town) and love "Trailer Park Boys" so I'm fairly well exposed to them. "Road Apples" and "Up To Here" are great pure rock albums, everything but their first self titled and the...

    Linux AV710 96KHz playback

So it's now working. The volume control is the PCM control and don't use alsa-lib 1.0.8 as av710 highdef support is quite borked. 1.0.7 on the other hand, works awesome. Someone might want to add that to the AV710 setup guide.

ADS, would you be able to post/email the .asoundrc you are using? Dropping PCM volume didn't do anything.

    Dave Matthews: Stand Up

I tried to like this one... but it's just not doing anything for me. Their studio work has only twice gotten me excited (Under The Table And Dreaming, Crash) and once seemed pretty good (Before These Crowded Streets). Live however, it's like a whole different band. Absolutely rock the house. So...

    Linux AV710 96KHz playback

Check the current AV710 setup guide in this forum. There's a file there which helps. Anyways, it now works... kinda. There's output, and works well with CDs when connected by analog cable. The problem creeps up when playing back files from the HD. There's static and such that shows up. It...

    Linux AV710 96KHz playback

What are you guys using for playback software in Linux? The part of the guide in the AV710 setup guide doesn't explain much. Is a software resampler needed? As well, it doesn't explain how to enable the new jack. From what I read it should "just work", but that's not my case.

    Headphones for intense workout

The sweat thing is something I'm concerned about before jumping into canalphones. My current setup while warming up for basketball or practicing is to use a pair of clipons... but they get SOAKED by the time I'm done. Considering they cost about $5 I'm not concerned if they ever get damaged from...

For your question on which video card... These days it depends more on which games you play, which engines they use, and who they are aligned with. ATI and nVidia now play favourites with the game producers. If you play Half Life 2 and its eventual derivatives, ATI is the best FPS (not that...

Basically I'd suggest the same system/cost as JWFokker laid out before I came back to Headfi this morning. A few tweaks here and there (I prefer the DFI board myself for example, and would likely exchange the WD drive for a Seagate one), but more or less he read my mind. Venice is the way to go...

The new AMD dual cores are not going to show up in volume until December, from the sounds of it he's not on that kind of timeline. Talk me out of the MDR-V6's

I'm a fan of the V6. Used it in high school for some DJ work, and all through university. They were great there thanks to the folding to put in a backpack or satchel, and can basically be powered by anything. I'm absolutely certain there are better phones for listening to better sources, and...
