USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

There has been occasional discussion here about USB-C hubs that allow the use of a power bank for better dongle performance and less source batter drain. With my iPad, I've found that this Maxonar hub does the job for me. This Aceele hub was mentioned a while ago, but I can't get the same result...

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

But the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the TP50 sounds better to me. I'd say the DC04Pro sounds a bit congested in comparison. The TP50 is more resolving and dynamic in my experience.

Looks like a TP50 in the photo. Nice collection!

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

I got the EPZ TP50 a few days ago, prompted by Andy's favorable review. My initial assessment is that it's excellent, and a substantial improvement over the Tanchjim Space and the iBasso DC04Pro, at least through my MP145. The combination is pretty amazing, IMO. Looking forward to reading...

I think I get the best sound with the double flange tips, and they are on sale on Amazon right now.

I agree that both phenomena reflect standing waves that are determined by tube length. In that respect, their is an analogy. If that's you're point, I agree with it. But as I said, I was responding to comments about whether eartip insertion can affect brightness or high frequency response...

First, thank you for the pdf. It's an interesting article. Not having spent time with it, though, I still feel there might be a misunderstanding here. Yes, the trumpet player's lips produce the sound, but the sounds are determined by the harmonic series of the length of tubing that is the...

I hope people realize that varying insertion depth of your IEM is not analogous to selecting the natural harmonics of a tube or string. Your ear canal is not vibrating like a trumpet and generating sound.

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

Just a few things to mention: My DC04Pro USB connection disconnects easily when slightly bumped. It's annoying. The Space connection is rock solid. In my opinion, the BHD Pro doesn't sound as good as either the DC04Pro or the Space. It's good but just not on the same level. I'll try the firmware...

I was disappointed with the KA5. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. But the DC04PRO was so much better to my ears, I decided not to hang onto it.

What are the advantages of multiple-BA compared to single BA?

The best IEM I've heard is the Etymotic ER4SR, and it's a single BA. To me, it makes sense to put the transducer as close to the eardrum as possible, rather than introduce additional structures and spaces outside the ear canal with their own acoustics. I bought an IEM with multiple Knowles BAs...

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

I think it depends a lot on how sensitive your headphones or earphones are. The default volume might be too high for safety with some devices. Regardless, you have to find a way to protect your hearing.

I got rid of an E1DA DAC because of a similar concern, but the Space isn't nearly as dangerous.

Thanks for the impressions. What do you mean by tighter sounding? FWIW, the Space seems to remember the volume setting when I use it with my laptop, and it's done so intermittently with my phone. Not sure what's up with that.

Sure, you've got these in each of your driver outlets. https://www.etymotic.com/product/damper-filters-6-pack/ They are for blocking ingress of dirt and for tuning frequency response. Your earphones should have come with spares and a tool for removing them. Try to avoid puncturing the inner...

The standard advice is to replace the filter and see if that helps. Have you tried that?

UAPP only provides bit perfect output for certain apps. And even for Qobuz, which it supports, it's a compromise. You can't download and listen bit-perfect with it, for example.

Just pointing out the obvious, but of course, the case and cable for the Space are probably more expensive to produce, so the price difference isn't all markup/marketing/software support.

Aren't most of these sub-brands of Shenzhen Audio? They have the same internals and practically the same specs. EPZ is probably just the way the same company markets the same product to a different customer. I doubt there is a shop called EPZ that just happens to use the same internals but has...

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

I suspect the EPZ T20 might be an internal clone of the Tanchjim Space. It quite looks like a clone of this one branded as Tiandirenhe, which is slightly cheaper. Everything, even the printed symbols on the volume buttons, looks the same. I was going to buy one to find out if they sound the same...
