Leak!!! Sony's New Portable Linear PCM Recorder PCM-D100 (upgrade of the famous D50s)
New D100 owner here, Fitear TG334 straight into headphone out. I guess I should really get an amp/dac as the headphone out is extremely loud for sensitive IEMs. I surmise full sized cans shouldn't have this problem. Does anyone have further impressions regarding the optical line-out? How...- mrksgrn

Thanks for your reply, blazer, but can't you only attach a powered subwoofer to the stereo amp in this way and not a passive one? -
Considering speakers, setup help needed
I'm considering buying the Magnepan Mini Maggie 2.1 system (all passive) and being a complete novice that I am to speakers, I was hoping some more knowledgable members here can help me with setup. I hope to pair it with a stereo amp that will be connected to my Schiit Lyr acting as a pre-amp. ...- mrksgrn

Audez'e LCD-2 design update
Looking at the new design, I'm glad I have the rosewood with carved connectors. The new design just doesn't have the artisan, timeless feel, especially with the plasticky looking new angled connectors (regardless of what material they are actually made of). The wood looks spotty and cheap upon...- mrksgrn

Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread
I understand that this will be completely subjective, but nevertheless still interesting to people in the same position as me. I currently have the Matsu****a 6922s in the Lyr and was wondering if anyone can recommend any other tubes that can top it, aside from the Lorenz. It's hard for...- mrksgrn

LCD-2 vs. HD800 - Soundstage: Centering?
Can anyone post a track that they think have vocals that are completely centered on HD800, LCD-2, or comparable headphone?- mrksgrn

LCD-2 vs. HD800 - Soundstage: Centering?
Quote: Thanks for your listen! Glad to know others have similar results. I suspect the speakers are more obvious because of its substantially larger and realistic soundstage. Can anyone else take a listen to the track and confirm their findings?- mrksgrn

LCD-2 vs. HD800 - Soundstage: Centering?
I'd appreciate it if those with LCD-2s and/or HD800s can comment on the centering of vocals in this track: http://s1.sftp.cc/sounddump/01_annabel.mp3 What I hear is that the main vocals are in the center but very slightly to the left. This was one of the tracks tested on the HD800...- mrksgrn

LCD-2 vs. HD800 - Soundstage: Centering?
I just want to add that the decentering isn't consistently on one side on all the cans tested which perhaps rules out mismatch, unless I'm wrong. To put my experience in another way, center sounded more 'centered' on the HD800 albeit very subtle.- mrksgrn

LCD-2 vs. HD800 - Soundstage: Centering?
I thought about driver mismatch too, but just like how it couldn't be channel imbalance, I find it difficult to believe that the LCD2, AH7000, AH2000, and even my Monster Turbine Pro Coppers had mismatch issues.- mrksgrn

LCD-2 vs. HD800 - Soundstage: Centering?
Moved to High-End to be more pertinent. Today I got to try extensively the Senn HD800 alongside my LCD-2, both driven by a Peachtree iNova, playing lossless files. I also had the opportunity to audition the Denon AH7000 and AH2000. Listening to the HD800 after listening to all...- mrksgrn

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)
I took a close look at my LCD2r2 today and noticed that the sheet of felt-like material underneath the grills of the headphone is not 100% flat, maybe 90% flat. Moreover, I noticed that there is a straight line of something hard, presumably wires, contouing noticibly underneath the felt-like...- mrksgrn

Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread
Thanks for the replies. I've very much a novice so this helps immensely. I understand that the sonic effects of cables are highly contentious and rather minimal, at least, to non-believers. In comparison, would a good pair of tubes make a significant, very very discernable, and less...- mrksgrn

Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread
Has anyone had any bad experiences with Schiit's stock 6BZ7? I've been burning these stock tubes for at least 200 hours already and periodically get crackling noises in either left/right channels. The volume of these crackles have diminished since the start, but are still somewhat annoying when...- mrksgrn

My setup is BiFROST > LYR > LCD-2 Having gotten the Lyr recently, I noticed that when there is no music playing, there is a faint, static-like high-pitched noise in both channels that appears and disappears periodically at around one minute intervals. LCD2 Stock Cables: Spinning 1/4 Plug. Normal?
As the title says, on the latest (thin) LCD2 stock cable, the head of the 1/4 plug spins slightly if twisted. Is this normal? For the record, the 1/4 plug doesn't wobble, but spins slightly.- mrksgrn
