Unique Melody MEXT Announcement and Impression Thread
I've been running some MEXT iems for a couple of weeks now, and I do have to say if you're a basshead and you want some IEMs, these are the most potent I've ever tried. I didn't know if they would be a bit of a gimmick, but man, they definitely have some bass. I also didn't know how well the...- reginalb

Unique Melody MEXT Announcement and Impression Thread
Has anyone noticed a sensitivity to distortion on these? I am doing a little audition of them, going to put together some thoughts, but I have noticed a few times some strange distortion, I noted it today in some piano keystrokes listening to Tidal on my computer via a Fiio BTR5. It's around 2...- reginalb

iBasso DX160 - The listening experience only gets better and better. ******NEW FW 1.09 - link 1st page.******
Tidal also works well through Plexamp, which is a great app if you also stream from a Plex server, as I do. It will search both your Plex library and Tidal together, allow you to play from your own collection or Tidal. Solid UI, too.- reginalb

iBasso DX160 - The listening experience only gets better and better. ******NEW FW 1.09 - link 1st page.******
Have you tried anything? I have found that it's album dependent. Some won't play at all, and some will. It actually seems that most albums listed as "Master" quality will play, and those that are only "Normal" quality won't. I did do a clear data, but that didn't seem to resolve the issue. I...- reginalb

Astell&Kern-no longer supported
God forbid Tidal wants to drop support for 7 year old API endpoints. Their minimum requirement for Android is 6, which is nearing 6 years old. Supporting manufacturers that pump out DAPs that can't support current at release versions of Android means that you're going to have this happen to you...- reginalb

EQ not working on Astell &Kern AK70
I had a different A&K DAP (AK300) about 4 years ago and reported that exact issue to them. They didn't care. They didn't fix it. EDIT: I misremembered. The issue wasn't that it did nothing, but rather that the bandwidth was extremely narrow...- reginalb

HiBy R2 - HiBy's entry-level HiFi digital audio player
Appears to have cleared customs, it just updated, I had refreshed it this morning, and it listed that it had arrived at the airport on November 5th. While it just updated today, it actually shows it as having cleared customs on the 5th as well. But I track my shipments pretty obsessively...- reginalb

DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***
Howdy all, I asked this in the DX150 thread and never got a response. I own a DX160, but I was wondering about this UI, which is nowhere to be found on the newer player: I know that I have also seen it on DX200 screenshots, my question is basically, is that the music player in Android, or did...- reginalb

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference
I was once duped by head-fi, we're all human. We'd be better off if we could all admit that it happens. And you're absolutely right, I don't know he's amoral. But I definitely think he is. I think many people that sell to audiophiles know exactly what they're doing. You're right that I...- reginalb

I think I'll quote the banned OP after this conversation and bloviate for a moment. Anyone in the current USB discussion, note I'm going to be tying this conversation back to the OP, and not actually directly addressing the current topic of conversation. You've been warned. I consider charging what Gordon does for a DAC to be a macro-aggression. Perhaps direct your offense to the snake oil salesmen, not the people pointing out that it's snake-oil. After several posts on a topic about someone who I think is amoral, I'll call them as such.- reginalb

And I am sure it all has nothing at all to do with the fact that he sells insanely overpriced audio gear, spouting the same nonsense: Source: https://www.wavelengthaudio.com/Store/ So anyway, believe what you will, but please don't go around duping others. How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference
I read it, unfortunately, I also understand how USB works. As I said to you, your description of what errors sound like is wrong. I read that, in its entirety, before replying. The article fails (conveniently) to tell you what an error would sound like. There would be a very audible artifact, or...- reginalb

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference
If you understand how USB cables work, then you know that what you're talking about just isn't possible. The 1's and 0's get to their destination or they don't. Nothing about warmth, or veils is what would even happen if there was a problem with a usb cable. Lost digits would result in errors...- reginalb

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference
USB 2.0 is wild overkill for an audio signal, and a 20-year old standard. 24-bit 192Khz audio, as silly as such a high rate is, equates to ~9.2 Mbps. USB 2.0 is specced for 480 Mbps. So long as you have a cable that is within the ballpark of spec, you're fine.- reginalb

A DAC listening test challenge. Will it happen?
And for a long time cheap Android phones were made by manufacturers that didn't care. If it had a 3.5mm output that worked, that was good enough. Good audio is trivial to achieve, but for phone manufacturers it doesn't always matter. Having used tons of Android devices, that was mostly resolved...- reginalb

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference
Depends on what kind of outputs said Walmart disc player has. You very well might be able to easily adapt it to a switcher. Anyway, if you need more rigor, there is plenty of published research available on the topic. But that's not your own ears, which is what many audiophiles claim is so...- reginalb
