Feedback by 'tambrose' on listing 'Schiit Bifrost 2/64 (Black)'
Nick is great to work with. The DAC was exactly how he described it. It was package3d really well, shipped quickly, and he kept me up to date throughout. Great seller for sure!- tambrose

The Astell & Kern AK240
Not sure if this is right place, but I was looking for suggestions for a new DAP to replace my AK240. It is old enough that I don't know where it would fit, soundwise, versus the current A&Ks or other brands. I think it was TOTL when it came out, but I bought it used a few years later. I'm...- tambrose

Upgrade from shure E2c
Go for the E500. If you get anything lower and stick around head-fi, you'll always be wondering if you should've gotten the E500.- tambrose

Does anyone have any experience with the Meridian DSP speaker range?
I listened to them once in an all Meridian setup. I thought they sounded good, but a little bit dry. It was hard to compare since I had never listened to any Meridian gear before, so I don't know if it was the source, preamp, or the speakers. -

Need advice picking out a new set of headphones
Oh yeah, you could also try getting these from the For Sale forum here. That might let you save $ and get headphones that are already broken in.- tambrose

Need advice picking out a new set of headphones
Since the best way to find out is the listen, I would suggest finding a Head-Fi sponsor that has a good return policy. Then buy a pair of the least expensive ones and give them a good try (e.g.- run them for a few days straight and then listen to lots of music from each of the sources/setups)...- tambrose

Need good tabletop CD source.
I've used a Linn Mimik and then a Linn Ikemi for a while. Neither one is super detailed, but both are musical. Before those, I tried players from Arcam, Sony (not ES), Adcom, Creek, and Rega. I found the Rega Planet easy to listen to as well.- tambrose

What does 'inner groove distortion' sound like?
Agreed. Make sure everything is setup correctly first. You can usually find cartridge alignment tools online. Just print it out and put it on the table.- tambrose

What would be a minimal vinyl setup?
I have only bought one new LP. I'd rather spend $1-5 per album at used stores and garage sales. I would also suggest a better belt driven table from the used market. I started with a Rega and now have a nice Linn LP12. Enjoy the music!- tambrose

The Westone UM1/UM2 Appreciation Thread
Maybe that's the problem that I'm having. I hear a high pitched noise in the background with using my laptop. I also have to keep the volume extremely low, but it sounds more balanced at slightly higher volumes. If you get an attenuator, let us know how it works.- tambrose

The Westone UM1/UM2 Appreciation Thread
I tried the UM1s and liked the sound, but felt I was missing a bit at the top and bottom ends. I sent them back for UM2s and am really enjoying them. They do well on music and movies. The isolation is impressive. I still miss some phone calls at my desk. Sometimes I think that the smaller...- tambrose

Help me choose a high end IEM
I think the UM2 sounds great with rock and metal. Good bass and good detail. Theoretically, the UM3 should sound better. Maybe you should wait and try them out.- tambrose

Noise from CDs and movies on laptop
When I listen to CDs and movies on my Dell Latitude laptop, I can hear a high pitched whine/hiss/noise with my UM2s. It stops when I pause or stop the disc. Its almost like there is noise coming from the onboard DAC. Has anyone else experienced this?- tambrose
