I listened to them once in an all Meridian setup. I thought they sounded good, but a little bit dry. It was hard to compare since I had never listened to any Meridian gear before, so I don't know if it was the source, preamp, or the speakers.

Oh yeah, you could also try getting these from the For Sale forum here. That might let you save $ and get headphones that are already broken in.

Since the best way to find out is the listen, I would suggest finding a Head-Fi sponsor that has a good return policy. Then buy a pair of the least expensive ones and give them a good try (e.g.- run them for a few days straight and then listen to lots of music from each of the sources/setups)...

I bet that depends on how much money you have and how hard you worked for it.

I've used a Linn Mimik and then a Linn Ikemi for a while. Neither one is super detailed, but both are musical. Before those, I tried players from Arcam, Sony (not ES), Adcom, Creek, and Rega. I found the Rega Planet easy to listen to as well.

Agreed. Make sure everything is setup correctly first. You can usually find cartridge alignment tools online. Just print it out and put it on the table.

I have only bought one new LP. I'd rather spend $1-5 per album at used stores and garage sales. I would also suggest a better belt driven table from the used market. I started with a Rega and now have a nice Linn LP12. Enjoy the music!

I've enjoyed my Beyer DT250-80s for a while. I switched to UM2s since I'm traveling more now. If you don't like your choice and are interested in the Beyers, let me know.

I think the UM2 sounds great with rock and metal. Good bass and good detail. Theoretically, the UM3 should sound better. Maybe you should wait and try them out.

I really like my UM2s. I bought them for travel, but now use them exclusively. I was using Beyer DT250s.

When I listen to CDs and movies on my Dell Latitude laptop, I can hear a high pitched whine/hiss/noise with my UM2s. It stops when I pause or stop the disc. Its almost like there is noise coming from the onboard DAC. Has anyone else experienced this?
