The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Hi All, It's been a while. Does anybody have a recommendation for aftermarket replacement pads that are cheaper than the original? Not looking to change the sound, just better durability at a better price. Not convinced of trying the $14 ebay ones though. Thanks!- BingCrosby1903

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Quite possibly. I should clarify that phones sit in the box with the lid open and the rest of the chord draping down. I was extremely annoyed to see it happen the second time. There are other reports of it happening. I do live in Sydney, so perhaps the heat doesn't help. I can recall German...- BingCrosby1903

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
The rubber insulation has cracked both times. They've never been dropped and always stay in the box. It seems they have an insatiable desire to tangle, which is why I assume they break. To think I had a HD 650 cable for 8 years, which only broke when I stamped on it when a Huntsman jumped out...- BingCrosby1903

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
So the stock HD800 cable has broken for the second time. I really don't want to pay the price of a Hd600 for a 2nd replacement. Is there any company like Blue Jeans Cable that does a HD800 cable? I'm not after an exotic aftermarket, just a high quality and durable alternative to the original...- BingCrosby1903

Sennheiser HDVD800 Headphone Amplifier
Definitely the BCL. Made in Germany vs China for one. I have seen (but not heard both) and the BCL has much nicer body work. The BCL is very clean, fast, smooth and neutral, something that the HD650 benefits from. I believe the Burson is a more rolled off sound. The BCL with the 650s really...- BingCrosby1903

Recommendations for a Mid-Range IEM for Classical Music with a Detachable Cable
Hi Guys, I'm a HD 800 owner looking to get some reasonably good quality (mid-range) IEMs for portable usage. Here are my requirements: Detachable and replaceable cable because I will almost certainly break this. Neutral sound signature - something like the HD 600...- BingCrosby1903

Asus Essence One Headphone Amp/DAC (CeBIT 2011)
I wouldn't stress too much about the head-amp being not fully discrete. From what I saw, others can confirm, it looks like a DIP 8 per channel, i.e. two BJTs per channel, which should offer excellent performance.- BingCrosby1903

Asus Essence One Headphone Amp/DAC (CeBIT 2011)
Hey Guys, While I know everyone is still waiting for the release of the One, but I was wondering if any reviewers could comment about the RCA outputs. Specifically, according to some, the ST/STX seems to have a fairly cheap output, similar to those in low end stand alone CDP's, and a...- BingCrosby1903

Burson vs Lehmann for HD 800
Just to say I did end up going with the BCL. It has more bass at low volumes than the Rhinelander, and is smoother and has a fuller and more defined soundstage throughout. Highs are sweeter. There are no technical issues like the channel imbalance I thought I heard the first time. In short...- BingCrosby1903

Asus Essence One Headphone Amp/DAC (CeBIT 2011)
Thanks for the review DarKu. I would be interested in knowing how the DAC of the Asus compares with that of the Burson. In addition, if I buy the Asus, i'd like it to be at least equal in sound quality to my musical fidelity A3.5 CD, which has a 24 bit 96 kHz DAC. I think it is very...- BingCrosby1903

Burson vs Lehmann for HD 800
I don't think all of the circuitry in the Rhinelander is exactly the same as the BCL minus the PSU caps and toroidal PSU. For one thing, the BCL has an ALPS volume pot (some amps with the alps like the X can v3 have an imbalance, but the BCL seemed fine and so did the one on the Rhinelander...- BingCrosby1903

Burson vs Lehmann for HD 800
Although there is an Australian distributor for SPL, they are in Melbourne (I'm in Sydney), and they will only sell it on a no returns/ change of mind basis. They may distribute to a shop in Melbourne that is willing to do this. It's $1099 AU RRP for the black one, which is much better value...- BingCrosby1903

Burson vs Lehmann for HD 800
The Auditor doesn't seem to come with unbalanced inputs ... shame. The tech seems very innovative though. Just to reiterate, these are the deals that I have the option of going for: 1) HD 800 + Lehmann Rhinelander $2000 AU 2) HD 800 + Lehmann BCL $2850 AU 3) HD 800 + Lehmann...- BingCrosby1903

Burson vs Lehmann for HD 800
Sorry I haven't replied for a while - I was away. Thanks for the replies in the meantime. stainless824 - You have said that the bcl in slightly more neutral than the burson, while the burson has a slightly wider soundstage. I already heard great instrument separation with bcl + HD 800...- BingCrosby1903

Burson vs Lehmann for HD 800
sawindra, I already did look inside both amps and you get more in the Burson (discrete input stage, stepped attenuator). However, did you see that I mentioned that I am going to get HD 800 + Rhinelander for $2000 AUD or HD 800 + BCL for $2850 AUD? So if I went with the Burson I would have to...- BingCrosby1903
