I owned the Z1R for several weeks, and I found them to be overly bass centric and somewhat dark sounding. I ended up returning them for a refund.

My thoughts exactly. I hear deep and detailed bass, with balanced mids and highs. I’m using mine with the Sennheiser hdv820 amp with the balanced pentaconn 4 mm connector. My favorite combo I have ever had the pleasure to use. Superb sound!

I’m actually wearing mine high with lower ear at the bottom of the pads just as you described. I adjust the band 3 1/4 clicks on each side and works like a charm every time.

I would hate to have to choose, but I lean the same way.

No, but I find the 820 sounds best to me with the phones sitting straight up and the headband pushed slightly forward on my head, but sitting flat across. On my 800S, I don’t hear any difference whether they are straight up or tilted back.

I read this review by Steve Gutenberg, and generally it’s on the money. I read his work and watch his daily utube blog, and he’s a big headphone aficionado.

I have both and have been jumping back and forth between the two, and I prefer the 800S for classical and most jazz, but the 820 for rock or where I just want more bass punch. Sometimes it’s a close call, but they are both different.

I have the hdv 820 source, (cd) player output using a coax cable to it, and using the pentaconn 4.4mm cable included with the amp gives me a balanced output. Works great!

Im using the Sennheiser HDV 820 amp, which was designed for the 820 and 800S headphones and its a sublime pairing on both pairs of cans. I’m using it with the p4 balanced connector which is how Sennheiser recommends for best results. It’s a pricey solution but oh so sweet sounding.

I’m not hearing any of that either. I’ve listened to my favorite Elvis 60’s and 70’s Records and he sounds better than ever. One of my other faves is Frank Sinatra from his 1950’s Capitol Records era. Frank sounds rich, detailed and full bodied. Mid range reproduction is superb, as is the bass...

I just received my HD 820 today from Crutchfield, I’m listening to it now, with about 2 hours in. I’m using it with the Sennheiser HDV 820 amp, in balances mode via the pentagon balanced connection. First impressions are fantastic. I’ll update this in a few days.

I bought my K 812 in January 2014, and I'm happy to report that I still love these cans, and have had no desire to chase the audio bunny for something marginally better. My earliest posts and impressions still hold true to me.

I have the K 812 and it sounds fabulous. Its impossible to judge any audio product until we hear it ourselves. One things for sure, at the MSRP, these have to cream the competion or their dead men walking.:)

Anyone using a Ringmat platter mat with a Rega? If so has it had any effect on the sound quality?
