Do Sennheiser HD650 have more sub-bass than HD600?

I keep reading that Sennheiser HD650 is 'thicker' than HD600...   Does that mean they have a noticeably better sub-bass response? Because I felt the HD600 was lacking a bit in sub-bass, therefore making the music feel like it doesn't have a realistic foundation. Hoping that the HD650 will...

Differences in sound signature BESIDES treble/mids/bass balance...?

Just was interested to know the ways in which headphones (and other components) can sound different independent of their treble/mids/bass balance. For example, you can take two headphones that have a generally bassy and treble-rolled off sound, yet they can still sound different...? How?   Is...

Questions about the Fiio E9/E17 combo

Hi guys, does anyone know if the new E17 is compatible with the old E9 (I bought my E9 in around 2011)?   And, I notice my E9 has a 'usb in' port, so does that mean that with the E17 attached, I can use the unit as a DAC/amp combo connected directly to my computer? Is it MAC compatible as...

What are some good quad-driver balanced armature universal fit in ear monitors?

I am making a list - so far I got Westone 4R, Ultimate Ears UE900, Sony XBA-4, Nuforce Primo 8 and Shure SE846.   Are there any more? I'm particularly looking for one with a treble-heavy, bass and mid-lite sound signature, which none of the above really has.   Thanks a lot in advance...

Can you mod small on-ear headphones like Sennheiser PX100 into neck-band headphones?

As title says, is there a decent way of doing this?   I like the neck-band style, and I have a Beyerdynamic headphone with a neckband but poor audio quality - can I somehow glue the neckband onto the PX100? And woulld the results be ok?   Has anyone done anything like this?

Please name me some ultra-powerful portable amps that can drive an HE-6

Bonus points for mentioning those that can drive the Hifiman HE-6 in single-ended mode (i.e. not balanced). For some reason, more amps seem to be able to drive the HE-6 when going balanced.   Thanks

Is it worth getting really high-end headphones if your source is 320kbps audio files?

They say the quality can only ever be as good as the source. 99.9% of my music is downloaded at 320kbps - given this - is it even worth investing in high-end headphones such as the HE-6's or LCD-2's or HD800's of this world?   Similarly, is it worth buying the amps required to drive these...

Inexpensive DAC with a bass-heavy sound?

Hello people, as title says, is there anything around the $150-250 mark that has a good bass body and extension without resorting to bass-boosting features? I'd like something that just naturally has that heavy type of sound...   Ideally it should be small-ish and a DAC-only unit (I already...

Can you wear Sennheiser PX100 II's behind the neck?

Can anyone who has these just try wearing them behind-the-neck style, see if can be done or if they just fall off when worn that way?   I know Sennheiser do specifi behind the neck models, but the PX100 II's will have better sound quality.   Thanks in advance!!

    Can't understand this 6moons review

Reading a 6moons review of the 'AMI Intl. Inc DS5' (not the most memorable product name), I wanted to know whether it would adequately drive the Hifiman HE-6.   I happily discovered that the reviewer gear-tested the HE-6 with it.   I was less happy when I read this paragraph;   "With the...

    Great gear-comparing YouTube channel

Has anyone heard of a YouTube channel called "SonicSenseProAudio"?   It is great for comparing gear directly, though, of course there are limitations in YouTube compression, and generally in comparing the playback of different devices through your own playback device... I think they record...

Headfonia's comparison between Burson (Conductor) and Violectric (V200)

http://www.headfonia.com/burson-vs-violectric-conductor-vs-v200v800/   They characterise the Bursom generally being brighter and sharper, and the Violectric generally being more tube-like, smoother darker, richer...etc...   I knw Headfonia sometimes 'get it wrong' or have exagerrated...

Can someone explain to me what 'current-drive' amps are?

Can someone explain how they work, how they work differently to 'voltage-drive' (or otherwise 'conventional' amps), and what the advantages and disadvantages over 'voltage-drive' amps are? And what are some examples of them?   Thanks very much - please accept the challenge of explaining...

    Fiio E09K with Hifiman HE-6's?

The reason I'm asking whether or not this amp can power the HE-6 is because I've read a Headfonia review that stated the Fiio E12 'Mont Blanc' could amply drive the HE-6, and the Fiio E09K is apparently even more powerful than the E12, according to the specs sheet.   However, Headfonia has...

A list of dedicated headphone amps that can drive the Hifiman HE-6...

A couple of definitions in this thread... By 'drive' the HE-6, I mean being able to drive them to a greater-than-loud listening level with no noticeable distortion and/or clipping. By 'dedicated headphone amp', I mean an amp that is designed to drive headphones, not a hifi receiver designed to...

    Basshead open-backed headphones?

The LCD2/3 is out of my budget, unfortunately.   I find the bass on my HD650's a bit lacking, but people will probably tell me I'm stupid for saying that because apparently they are some of the most bass-heavy open-backed headphones you can get.   I was thinking about the Ultrasone HFI...

    Quick iTunes question

Since some recent update, iTunes has developed an annoying habit of always going to the start of whatever section you're on.   What I mean by that, is, if you're listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, then you pause and click on 'Podcasts' because you want to listen to a podcast for a bit - when...

Can using headphones for music production damage them?

If using headphones for mixing your own music, you will inevitably be dealing with music that has not yet been mastered.   Music in this state can contain aggressive high frequencies, clipping and/or distortion. Would reproducing these sounds cause damage to the voice coil and/or drivers of...

    Are Futuresonics Atrios discontinued?

On the official Futuresonics website it says they're sold out/no longer available... Does that mean they're discontinued?   Would be a shame if they were - they offered the best sub bass for the price (maybe any price!)...

    Sound signature of Shure SRH-840's?

Most people on here describe the 840's as being quite heavy, pronounced and lush in the mids, ok bass response, and clean highs.   However, Tyll from Inner Fidelity (whose opinion I respect very much) has said pretty much the opposite - that the 840's are forward in the bass and highs...

    J-Phonic K2 SP - international availability?

Dynamic driver IEM's with bright treble?

Is there anything out there that fits this description apart from the Hifiman RE0/RE-Zero/RE-400/whatever it's called nowadays...   Looking for something slightly more high-end than that - though I know it performs very well for its price range.   I don't like the sound of BA drivers...

Phillips Fidelio X1...? Anyone tried/have it?

Has anyone tried these headphones?   I am interested in them because I think they might be an open headphone with good bass response - without being prohibitively expensive like the LCD2/3.   From reviews (well I only found one review), it sounds like they may offer stronger bass...

Can the HD650 do bass like closed headphones?

I will attempt to create this thread again, since the last one detoured, got messy, and the mods deleted it!!   Anyway, the HD650 is known as a bassy open backed headphone, but can it match the bass quantity and impact of an 'averagely bassy' closed backed model?   (By 'averagely bassy'...

Orange VT1000 Tube Tester - can it be used with tube headphone amps?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OKuPZkLk2Y   In the above link is a little summary of this device that lets you test and match tubes for guitar amps (Orange is an iconic manufacturer of guitar amps).   I was wondering if it could also be used in the same way for the tubes in tube...
