Upgraded USB cable vs. digital interface vs. upgraded DAC/amp
so i have an audio-gd NFB-12 fed by a crappy USB cable from my laptop via ASIO, mostly FLAC content, going to Lawton Audio LA-5000s. should I 1) get a digital interface (like M2Tech hi-face two) and use the Blue Jean Cables coax cable i already have laying around 2) upgrade my USB...- movi

Any Members From Ottawa, Canada?
Quote: ya that makes sense. it's not included in the list that went out by PM, but i also have a laptop with a bit-perfect 24/96-capable Winamp setup that can bring anything in from USB easily (so we'll have 3 laptops all together). I'll bring my Audio-GD NFB-12 too, although it looks...- movi

Any Members From Ottawa, Canada?
count me in. unfortunately i can only offer LA2000, but would be thrilled to try some of the other cans mentioned in the thread and meet everyone. I'm definitely wondering what the source situation would be. is there any way we could conveniently bring our own music to sample? maybe a...- movi

The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread
so i have an Audio-GD NFB-12 and am contemplating T-1s later this year. 1) i have LA2000s and like them (although mids are their greatest weakness). can anyone comment on how different the sound signature of the T-1s would be and in what ways? (also i have owned DT990/600s so that would...- movi

Best headphones for classical & jazz under $100?
i've heard D1100s and they're too bassy for my dad i think. he'll want something with a more neutral presentation. hd448's look good. he will like the sennheiser sound. and they're closed and apparently offer decent isolation, which is a bonus for him. the 555s are just out of the price...- movi

Best headphones for classical & jazz under $100?
any ideas? i'm looking for my dad. open or closed is fine, must be decently comfortable at least (no grados LOL). and must be relatively low-impedance as he will be using them un-amped- movi

Headphones with good bass
D2000s have the most bass presence and impact under $200 in my experience, although i haven't tried the Sony models- movi

Audio-GD NFB-12
what? i thought it was supposed to be beneficial? your NFB-12 has inputs that accept up to 24/192. that doesn't mean it resamples everything. if you haven't configured foobar to upsample its output, don't worry it's just outputting 16/44.1 to your NFB-12.- movi

Looking for Grados less strident/peaky than RS1s
i remember doing a huge amount of research on RS-1 vs RS-2 vs HF-2 vs RS-1i back before i made a purchase, and now it's all just a jumble in my head. i know RS-2 and HF-2 are slightly laid back in presentation compared to RS-1. similarly RS-1i is tamed in the upper range compared to RS-1. i...- movi

Looking for Grados less strident/peaky than RS1s
tried TTVJ flats. didn't work for me. i enjoyed the increased bass presence but it lost too much of that great mid-range, and the bass became somewhat muddled compared to standard bowls. but somehow my ears have gotten used to the sound of the RS-1s. there are still some songs that hit the...- movi

Should I buy a digital interface?
i don't know. i wish there was more clarity on these topics. do any of these issues exist with a high-quality CDP source? i get the feeling there's all this mucking around when you want to use a computer as a source, because computers have never really been intended to be a high-quality...- movi

Should I buy a digital interface?
Quote: interesting. so why is it that, for example Audio-GD markets their digital interface as being for upgrading a poor source. and many people have reported good results using usb-to-coax digital interfaces like the HiFace when used on laptops. i understand your other points but this...- movi

Should I buy a digital interface?
thanks for the replies. to clarify: i own an NFB-12, which is a DAC/amp and has USB, Optical, and Coax inputs. my understanding was that using a USB-to-Coax digital interface (such as the popular HiFace units) will be an upgrade over simply plugging a USB cable into the MB Pro and...- movi

Should I buy a digital interface?
I have an NFB-12 dac/amp and plan on using it with a MacBook pro or other laptop via USB. My understanding is digital interfaces are recommended when you have a relatively poor source, such as a laptop. Should I use a digital interface with my laptop? Does it make a big difference? ...- movi

Looking for Grados less strident/peaky than RS1s
my RS1 vintage B's do not have pink drivers. either way, i've ordered some TTVJ flats to try out. these headphones are too good to not properly investigate the different ways they can sound. despite the problem i have described, i find myself reaching for the RS1 over all my other...- movi

Looking for Grados less strident/peaky than RS1s
i'm not sure if i would describe it as fatigue. it's just painful in a particular band of the frequency range for certain songs. unfortunately it's probably 50% of songs. it's in the 10khz range too, not the top end. i like the top end of the RS1s the way it is.- movi

Looking for Grados less strident/peaky than RS1s
you mean if you squash it you have to keep another pair squashed all the time because eventually they go back to their normal form? hmm. i'll give reversed bowls a try and maybe pick up some ttvj flats- movi

Looking for Grados less strident/peaky than RS1s
just picked up a set of buttoned RS1 (vintage B). i'm finding them a little strident/peaky with a hump around the 10khz region that i find uncomfortable on many tracks. my understanding is RS2, HF2, and RS1i are all slightly rolled off in the treble region compared to RS1. 1...- movi
