How Do you Test Headphones to see if They Are Good?

Listen to them and if you like them then they are good headphones.   People hear differently and thus the definition of a "good" headphone varies. There will be people who tell you measurements matter and all that jazz but in my opinion it does not matter if a headphone has the best...

Best headphone like LCD 2 without the weight?

Your point? What was the amp? I used a neutral HDVD800 DAC/Amp and the differences were minimal.

Best headphone like LCD 2 without the weight?

Quote: Honestly, from what I heard when I tried them both back to back, they were pretty close in terms of treble.

Best headphone like LCD 2 without the weight?

You could try the Sennheiser HD650. They may not have as much bass but they sound almost identical to the LCD-2s.

Audeze LCD2 for bass heavy songs?

They are pretty good for bass heavy songs but they won't really cut it for classical in my opinion. They sound cluttered and it is almost like a wall of sound coming at you.

    Moving Into A Balanced Setup.

I have not had the chance to listen to one but you can check out this thread for impressions on a wide range of headphones.    http://www.head-fi.org/t/519166/audio-gd-nfb-10

    Moving Into A Balanced Setup.

You could always go for the NFB 10.32 to save space and money. It's fully balanced and has balanced and single-ended headphone outputs and tons of power. Audio-gd favors optical so that would be your best bet. Or a USB to optical transport would work just as well if not better.

HD800 owners in San Jose, CA area

Quote: Yep. They're not that far from San Jose. Just take 101 North until you get to Moffett Blvd and then take a left after you exit and keep going and it's before the train tracks.   They're wonderfully helpful. I went there last week actually. They'll set you up and let you do your...

    Sennheiser HDVD800 Headphone Amplifier

Hey guys, so I got the chance to listen to this amp last week on a pair of HD800s at a store and the details of the music just blew me away!  One thing that caught my attention and made my jaw drop to the floor was the detail it gave to string instruments and how natural the sound was. I...

HEADPHONE MEET at the Headmaster in San Francisco 8/10/2013

Quote: Well then I'll be glad to bring them. I do still have the stock pads, I did the pad swap a few hours after I got the headphones but from what I could tell, the sound quality compared to stock is somewhat altered. The treble mellowed out and the bass feels tighter but the main reason...

HEADPHONE MEET at the Headmaster in San Francisco 8/10/2013

Thanks for the add Frank. I don't really have anything to bring unfortunately. I only have a pair of MDR-v6s with Beyerdynamic pads but I'm sure that's just boring compared to what everyone else is bringing. I look forward to meeting everyone though!

Quote: The thing about Senna though is that he had full control the majority of the time while Perez was just shoving his car into the chicane every chance he got and hoped the other person would give him room. It was not like what Senna did at all. Perez never had control over his car and...

New ALO Amp, bring your plastic

Goodness that's A LOT OF MONEY!    It would also be pretty helpful to compare headphones for reviews though if you can run all 4 of them at the same time and just take one off and put another on.

Purchased the MS-1s as a recommendation, I now want to upgrade to Beyer dt880s/AKG K702s

The Schiit amps are tested with the Beyerdynamic 600ohm headphones and they have been reported to sound pretty good out of them. The Asgard 2 would be more futureproof for you since it has a gain switch so you can use a wider variety than the Valhalla which is an OTL amp so it would only work...

Do you already have a DAC? If not, you'll need one.   As for amps, maybe the Schiit Valhalla. You're not really going to find many quality tube amps within your budget to be honest though. Why do you specifically want a tube amp?

Need a recommendation for the Best Closed Circumaural headphones for EDM/Trance/Electro/Dubstepper

high end rig recommendations budget $4000 or lower

Well it looks like you've got your finances in check and you are willing to spend your budget. So with that in mind, the Lyr is a good choice or you could go for end game and get the well regarded DNA Stratus and a DAC like the Bifrost or Gungnir and then the LCD-2 and call it a day.

high end rig recommendations budget $4000 or lower

You say you're a teenager so I assume you're either in High School or College.    With that in mind, I'd say maybe start modestly with a mid-fi rig and then save money for more essential items. Maybe an LCD-2 and then an entry level amplifier and DAC. Perhaps something from Audio-GD since...
