Searching for TWS IEMs for music alone

I have thought of that but then I'd be paying for all the features I wouldn't be using, so in theory the bang for the buck purely for sound quality is going to be lower.

Searching for TWS IEMs for music alone

Now my Sony WF100XM4s are starting to die I'm starting the search for a replacement that I'll be using for music alone, so I don't really need ANC or microphones or any of the other gubbins that often comes with true wireless earphones these days -- I never used any of that on my XM4s because I...

New from Woo Audio - WA7 Fireflies (3rd Gen)

Any idea what DAC the 3rd gen uses? The gen 2 Fireflies has an ES9018K2M DAC but I have yet to find the detailed gen 3 specs. I would hope Woo has upped it to a 9028-level chip at least, but I've no idea.

New from Woo Audio - WA7 Fireflies (3rd Gen)

Curious if anyone's compared the sound profile of the 3rd gen and 2nd gen (which also uses an ESS Sabre DAC... OP needs correcting) with stock tubes. Probably a very subtle difference, but I'm interested in any and all impressions nonetheless. Power-wise, my 2nd gen Fireflies seem to drive my...

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

Is it a fit issue with the spinfits? I have the EP01 and they're decent -- bring out the mids and treble a bit more, but seem to introduce a bit of grain in the process. I wish they went slightly deeper, but the XM4s sit almost flush with my ears. Sadly there's too much difference between the...

Have you tried different settings -- ANC on/off, switch codec, switch bitrate, DSEE on/off etc?

Which Sednas did you try? Xelastec or regular black ones? And what about the ePros didn't you like? I'd love to try the Spiral Dots but they're hard to come by for a reasonable price ($30 on Amazon is not "reasonable"!)

Can confirm silicone tips change the sound, generally for the better, and improve the comfort (feels less like having your ears overstuffed). I'm trying the EP01 and the comparison that instantly came into my head was of my former Audioquest Nighthawks sounding like the XM4s with the stock foam...

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

I can see how multipoint is useful but I'm someone who is happy enough without it since I only really use earphones sporadically with a single device (ask me again in a few months when I have to take more regular Zoom meetings interrupted by phone calls!) I'm also someone who bought the XM4s...

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

Ah, that might have been my problem -- I tried them in my ears with nothing playing, and lying on the desk with nothing playing. Old habits (trying to prevent file corruption) die hard! I guess I should just use them and trust it'll do it's thing in the background

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

Any tricks to updating the firmware? Tried it multiple times on my Pixel 3 and progress never moved beyond 0% after about 10 minutes so I gave up. Tried it on my iPad and it progressed to about 8% before it aborted itself for no apparent reason. I give up!

Not sure if you've already covered this, but I'm curious how you'd rate the SQ of the Nobles against the XM4s. Obviously they're different signatures overall, but how does the bass quality and imaging compare in particular?

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

Not sure you'd have much luck with only a five-band EQ, but you should be able to find the frequency response curve of the XM4s somewhere online (try this review) to give it a go. It's not actually too far off the Harman Response Curve -- pull down the mid-bass a bit and boost the 4K+ and you'd...

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

I'm a bit stuck, too... it's hard to tell if the shallower TWS ones will be too shallow to seat properly in my ear canal before the body of the earphone hits my ear. Stock large tips are 8mm deep, vs 6.5mm for the ePro TWS and what looks like >8mm for the EP00. Depends on ear shape I guess. Some...

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

The control options are a bit limited to Sony's preset sets, but the Speak to Chat option is perhaps what you're looking for and it works very effectively -- detects when you are speaking, pauses music and turns on ambient mode

    Sony WF-1000XM4 Impressions Thread

Yes, it's essentially the Sony "house" sound for the wireless-X series so I was really not surprised the darkness persisted. I don't have the WF-XM3s, but the WF-XM4s are slightly better sounding than the WH-XM3s IMO. Adjust the EQ in the Sony app to boost treble and dial back the bass a bit and...

Any difference between Violectric V200 and V280 for SE?

Is there a difference between the V200 and V280 in terms of power and sound signature for SE output? I'd love to try the Violectric sound but would prefer not to shell out for a V280... not that the V200 is cheap, but at least it's cheaper. I assume the V280 costs more simply due to the balanced...

    Westone B50 Release

I've not tried the IE40 Pro, but from my Westone experience I'd say the B50 sits somewhere between the W40, which is still has a pretty full "westone" house sound, and my old Westone 3,which has a mid-bass boost that can sound fairly pronounced in some music. The B50 definitely has big bass, but...

    Your Headphone journey

More similar than different, but the Auteur overall sounded a bit more neutral than the Eikon so the sub-bass slam that I loved on the Eikon was less obvious on the Auteur and the Eikon sounded a bit warmer overall. For a closed headphone I thought the Eikon was very good. For an open headphone...

    Your Headphone journey

Can't remember the exact path, but I was always a speaker person (KEF, Tannoy, Mission, B&W etc.) so came to headphones a bit later on in life. Started with some folding low-end AKGs for the office (model escapes me), then started appreciating the convenience of headphones a bit more. Tried and...

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

I always assumed the mid-upper bass dip in the 1770s was to prevent bass bleeding into mids, which can be a problem with closed cans, but maybe there was another reason to tune them that way. The 1990s have decent bass impact but I wouldn't call them basshead cans by any means (and they still...

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

There's a lot to like about the 1770s, but I eventually sold them (and bought E-MU Teaks) because I found they had a big flaw for a lot of the rock music I listen to -- they have a noticeable dip at around 200hz, which had the effect of sucking the mid-upper bass rhythm and punch out of a lot of...

ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

They do look a bit alarming... I had my gf try on my Eikons and I couldn't stop laughing at how bizarre and huge they looked on her smaller head! Wearing them out and about would IMO be like taking a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard to a Starbucks to work on your laptop.
