Powerbeats Pro (Truly Wireless IEM from Apple/Beats)
My Powerbeats Pro came today. I think I will return them, for several reasons. But first the positive: when paired with my iPad the Powerbeats Pro gave decent sound quality with no dropouts. The ear hook was not unpleasant nor uncomfortable. Now for the not so good: most serious, the...- Lavcat

Powerbeats Pro (Truly Wireless IEM from Apple/Beats)
The Powerbeats Pro price dropped $50 on amazon, so I ordered. I would not be surprised if a new model was about to come out. I wanted these mainly for outdoor activities. I'm a little concerned because I've never had an IEM before and I'm not sure how well my ears will tolerate them.- Lavcat

Niimbus Ultimate Series US4/US4+/US5/US5 Pro Headphone Amps - by Lake People
To each their own. I prefer how the V200 looks. I may yet get one, considering the Niimbus is so much more expensive.- Lavcat

Niimbus Ultimate Series US4/US4+/US5/US5 Pro Headphone Amps - by Lake People
For better or worse Lake People just lost the sale of a V200. Niimbus, even if misspelled, is way above my budget but now I must see what develops. And I have to say unlike the V281/V220 the Niimbus looks really nice,,,not to mention what it might sound like. I am minded of Goethe's poem The...- Lavcat

High End Bluetooth Headphones
Somewhere, I believe, in this impossibly long thread I inquired about Bluetooth phones. Perhaps around two years ago. What I finally purchased was a Jabra Evolve 75 UC headset. Setup was a little rough but they exceed my expectations. Primary purpose was communication but I chose them also...- Lavcat

Using speaker output's to drive headphones.... and what awesome results!!
As an update for the past five years or so I've been driving my headphones from the output of a Crown D-75A, which even has a 1/4 inch headphone jack in parallel with the speaker wire screws. No more preamp output for me!- Lavcat

Please recommend the replacement for my Apogee Duet
I have a Duet. I think its strength is more as an A to D than as a DAC. For a DAC I use and can recommend a NAD M51, which is within your price range. Edit: oops, I just noticed how old this thread is.- Lavcat

Foobar2000 with WASAPI on Windows 10
Success, sort of. I had been having the dropouts using audio over HDMI (AMD Radeon Nano). Today in desperation I decided to try audio over USB (in both cases to a NAD M51). USB is not quite as convenient for me as HDMI, but the audio works perfectly over USB -- no dropouts at all that I...- Lavcat

Foobar2000 with WASAPI on Windows 10
Thanks for the suggestion of LatencyMon. LatencyMon reports "Your system appears to be suitable for handling real-time audio and other tasks without dropouts." Meanwhile dropouts are horrible. I disabled 13 services, including Windows Search, and ran with and without a pagefile. I tried...- Lavcat

Update: Microsoft's Groove Music player has the same dropouts, so it is unlikely to be a problem with foobar configuration.- Lavcat

Foobar2000 with WASAPI on Windows 10
I'm experiencing severe dropouts using WASAPI (or not using WASAPI) with foobar2000 v1.3.9 and Windows 10 Pro. At first I thought it was a network problem but now I know it is the same with music files on the local MVMe drive. No such dropout problems on old, three core AMD Phenom running...- Lavcat

Apogee Duet DAC ROCKS!
I received my Duet night before last. So far I have not tried recording, but the Duet DAC is wonderful. The built in headphone amp is OK, but no substitute for a real amp, at least driving Denon D7000. I'm using my Crown D-75A as an amp and I can't go to bed. Can't stop tapping my toes. ...- Lavcat

Anyone go to CES? I'm interested in any new bluetooth headphones coming to market.
Many a fine audio transducer has been made of paper. A reason I am considering the Solo 2 Wireless is that I want a Bluetooth headphone I am not afraid to use outside. The Solo 2 Wireless is made largely of plastic I understand. I also want compatibility with my iPad. Sound quality...- Lavcat

I have not actually listened to any Beats but the solo 2 wireless are interesting to me. I'd like to get some good Bluetooth headphones. I have not heard of anything new that sounds better on paper.- Lavcat

High End Bluetooth Headphones
I am planning to purchase an iPad, and if so to get a pair of Bluetooth headphones to work with it. Sound quality is not my primary concern for this application, although it would of course be nice. I am more interested in comfort, convenience, and compatibility. I would want on-ear or...- Lavcat

Calling All "Vintage" Speaker Owners
In the early 1960's I built an enclosure (singular, as in mono) using a 12 inch Electro Voice driver and an Electro Voice horn tweeter. Can't recall the model numbers. Thought it sounded pretty good at the time, but then I didn't know much better. Powered it with a Scott Kit amplifier.- Lavcat

The Opamp thread
Quote: I used a standard BrownDog adapter and two Central Semiconductor 1N5314 CRD's to bias a pair of OPA627's into class A with good results. There is space to mount the 1N5314 diodes between the DIP socket pins if you're careful.- Lavcat

Drilling out through holes on PCB
Quote: I considered the MicroLux but ordered a Proxxon drill instead. I wanted to be able to drill larger holes in panels than the MicroLux would handle. If you get the MicroLux I would love to know what you think of it.- Lavcat
