Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
Just received my Elears and its an eye-opening step up from my 11-year old 650s. The soundstage is much more expensive. Imaging is also improved with great coherence and instrument separation. Bass is rich and impactful! If you listen to rock or metal these are so fun! Maybe not as much slam...- Gibsonorbust

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
I assumed it can run just from the USB input (data + operational power?) from the computer, independent from charging the battery. Or do I need to charge it also if the battery is dead?- Gibsonorbust

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
Operating it strictly from the USB input should spare the battery charging cycles too, right? If so I'll order right away lol- Gibsonorbust

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
Hey guys, So I'm close to pulling the trigger on this (to replace my Schiit Modi + M^3 amp) and plan to drive my HD650s. Does the Mojo overheat (shut off?) if left connected to a computer for most of its life? Can I reliably have it 'just work' like any other DAC + amp stack or does it have any...- Gibsonorbust

Awesome, thanks for the HSU Research suggestion cel4145. Just like the Modi upgrade, I'll be wondering why I didn't upgrade long ago. Cheers!- Gibsonorbust

Computer monitor + amp overhaul
The $700 budget would include the passive speakers as well. I enjoy audio engine's sound signature and may opt for their P4s at $250 MSRP. Therefore, its looking likely I'll keep everything as separate components and opt for passive speakers, speaker amp (this emotive looks like a great...- Gibsonorbust

Computer monitor + amp overhaul
I just learned my 8year old audioengine A5s are beyond repair and looking to shake up my whole headphone rig. However, I just purchased a Schitt Modi 2 Dac and like the sound, and am still within my return period. The Schitt runs through an M^3 diy amp to HD 650s. So, instead of...- Gibsonorbust

InEarZ (Fisher Hearing) Custom Remold Owner's Thread
Just received my first pair of customs. They are remolds of some broken, neglected SE530s. (I wish I took "before" pictures of those infamous, destroyed cables for contrast.) I am loving the Inearz's build quality: the enclosure is bubble-free, smooth and seal is fantastic. My total...- Gibsonorbust

GroveDock - Cut Vinyl iPhone Stand
Hey tjzin, thanks for the feedback! Initially, we want to focus on making a fully analog stand. Dare I say its kinda meta. Here is a short showing the dock in use: This is our first audio project. I'm usually pretty picky about my sound but I find myself using it all...- Gibsonorbust

GroveDock - Cut Vinyl iPhone Stand
Hi Head-Fi, I am a longtime lurker and have recently been working on an iPhone dock. I call it GrooveDock, an iPhone stand made of 66 unique pieces of cut vinyl records. It features a sculpted acoustic horn which boosts sound 7 db (@ 1 kHz). My friend and co-designer Charles and I...- Gibsonorbust

Help me decide between Rs-1i or HD650!
Thanks Sampson, thats been my understanding of the AKGs. I guess the question Ive been shying away from is: Considering the relative quality of sound I know form my HD650s (+amp), would I be "disappointed" with anything less that Grado's Reference line, considering I am looking for a top...- Gibsonorbust

Help me decide between Rs-1i or HD650!
Ok, great. I could also pickup a used K701 for the same price as a new 225i. Would the 701 have comparable bass performance to the 225i? Speed and fullness?- Gibsonorbust

Help me decide between Rs-1i or HD650!
Hi all, I'm a new user and have similar concerns to NormaJean. I like Prog Rock, acousitc folk and female jazz vocals. I own a pair of HD650s and have an M^3 being built as we speak! I haven't auditioned the grado sound yet, but I am intrigued-especially for giving me a more lively sound...- Gibsonorbust
