Schiit Lokius Impressions & Reviews
Correct, since the Lokius does all the EQ-ing as single-ended (this is discussed in the Lokius announcement post in the Schiit thread), when it's turned off it just becomes a passive pass-through. Although I did read Jason say somewhere that passing signal through an powered-off device can...- nomis3613

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hi @Jason Stoddard. Just FYI, the "in the box" list in the Syn user manual is missing the remote control. For this highly important discovery, is my reward a free Syn?- nomis3613

That's a shame, I hope they look after you with the return. Are you using the RCA inputs and outputs? Does it also happen when it's in bypass mode?- nomis3613

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Recently I bought a Rekkr, to see what a mighty 2 Watts could do. They're driving large-ish bookshelf speakers with a nominal sensitivity of 89dB/W in a 16ft long by 22ft wide room. It aced the first test: near-field listening sitting about 3 feet from the axis of the speakers. Then to push it...- nomis3613

I haven't measured it, but the output seems similar to other line-level devices. Schiit's product page talks about the RCA output using a single phase of the balanced signal.- nomis3613

Schiit Lokius Impressions & Reviews
After about 6 months with the Lokius, I'm still very happy with it. Six bands does seem to be a good sweet spot for making tonal changes, without needing to be an audio engineer to avoid creating a spiky monster. I now appreciate why Schiit didn't feel the need to add more bands to the Loki Max...- nomis3613

Schiit Lokius Impressions & Reviews
Good stuff. It's great to hear that you've found the settings which suit your taste. I agree that making smaller adjustments over a wider range gives smoother results than a big adjustment of a single band. (But for the opposite situation when extreme adjustments are needed in a single band...- nomis3613

Schiit Lokius Impressions & Reviews
Thanks for the invitation to throw in my 2 cents worth! I bought the original Loki Mini a couple of months before the Mini+ was released. To my ears, it is completely transparent when set to flat (also tested by switching back-and-forth to to an amp input that skips the Loki entirely). And the...- nomis3613

Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions
Hi Treecloud. Many thanks for sharing your observations, I found them very interesting. I'll keep an ear out for any differences in sound stage between the modes, although it could well be too subtle for my ears. I wholeheartedly agree that this is a great little pre-amp.- nomis3613

Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions
Hi Dana. The switch was left over from when I was switching between amps. It seemed to have no effect, since I've removed it and the difference between passive and active on the Saga S is the same. Is anyone able to explain what the audible difference should be between the passive and active...- nomis3613

Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions
Dear Head-fi, Could someone please help my curiosity about the solid-state Saga S... What difference in sound should I expect when turning the buffer stage on and off? To my untrained ears, there is no difference when the volume is at unity. With the volume at 50-95%, the active mode is...- nomis3613

Schiit Loki Max Impressions
Thanks for the great review. I think that if/when it is available in silver (matching the rest of my stack), I shall be sorely tempted. Regarding the first of your presets, is there a reason for using a Flat preset rather than the bypass function?- nomis3613

Loki Mini Impressions
Is anyone aware of a device out there that's similar to the mythical Loki Max please? I am seeking a hardware stereo EQ that has at least 8 bands and a remote control. So far my search results are either pre-1990s or modern rack-mount pro gear, neither of which have a remote. Thanks, Simon- nomis3613

Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions
Ahh, very interesting. Thanks for the explanation. Since the distortion only happens when the 2nd amp is turned off, I'm guessing that its input impedance somehow changes when it's off. How strange that to avoid distortion when using the 1st amp, I'll also have to make sure the 2nd amp is...- nomis3613

Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions
Indeed, it is quite strange. But that the distortion goes away when the Saga volume is one click louder suggests to me that it's something to do with the pre-amp. I've just tested it with another power amp and the same thing happens. My mistake, it turns out that the 2nd amp is upsetting...- nomis3613

Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions
Just hoping someone can shed some light on a strange distortion occurance with my new Saga S. The setup is Modi MB > Loki > Saga S > power amp. It's nicely clean at low volumes, but at around 90% on the Saga there is distortion when the input level gets high (eg loud music, or cranking up the...- nomis3613

FLAC players (Bluesound Vault, RPi, portables)
Just an update about what I ended up doing. So far, I took the cheap option and bought a FiiO M6 portable player. The main reasons for this model is that it has USB audio output (haven't tried it yet, the DAC hasn't arrived), storage is using a Micro SD card and it can be remotely controlled...- nomis3613

FLAC players (Bluesound Vault, RPi, portables)
Dear Head-fi gurus, This here luddite is looking to move from CDs into the world of FLAC. The core aim is a box that has inbuilt storage, a remote control or Android app, and a digital output (it'll be going into a Schiit Modi). Nice-to-haves are the ability to rip CDs (to avoid having to use...- nomis3613

Review by 'nomis3613' on item 'Beyerdynamic 706205 Custom Street Headphone, Black'
Background Perhaps the toughest environment for any set of headphones is peak-hour train public transport! For this usage, my priorities were: ambient noise isolation, portability and ruggedness. In-ear headphones were not an option, so it was a decision between on-ear and over-ear headphones...- nomis3613

[REVIEW] Urbanears Bagis
Just thought I'd put up a quick review of these budget IEMs, in case anyone was interested. If you're interested in my headphone listening history, I started out with a set of Etymotic 4i's. Actually, 2 sets of the 4i's, turns out they're not a very robust model. Decent sound, and very good...- nomis3613

Question about eartips for my ATRIO M5
I realise this thread is ancient, but anyway, just in case someone else stumbles across it like I did. The Shure Foam Sleeves ("Olives") are a shinier, smoother material than the scratchy Etymotic/Futuresonic foam, so they are much more comfortable. Haven't owned them long enough yet to...- nomis3613
