New hi-fi store in Gig Harbor, WA. Let's go on a field trip!
Someone mentioned this on Reddit: http://www.gigharboraudio.com/index.html Anyone interested in going? At the last Seattle meet we talked about going up to BC, but this seems more reasonable for anyone living south of Seattle. What days work for people?- madelvice

Seattle meet 12/15/12 impressions
Yeah, LCD-3 was, indeed, amazing. My second time getting my hands on the HD-800s, they're probably my favorite of what I've heard so far, but I have wayyyyy more to listen to before that statement can be too strong. Great time. Let's try to get that Vancouver trip going! -
An (even easier) AKG K550 Small Head Mod
I have now done three mods to the k550s: 1. Headband bend 2. Stuffed earpads (I used folded cotton rounds) 3. rubber bands. The combination of rubber bands and stuffed pads works nicely, though you have to be careful about stuffing the pads to make sure it's even. For...- madelvice

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!
Also, I've found that by tilting the headband a little forward I get a better fit. I think it's because the front of my head is a little smaller and flatter. Anyway, something to try out.- madelvice

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!
Just got my pair yesterday. Mostly happy. The bass sounds good but it feels just out of reach. Also, finding a good fit has been (unsurprisingly) difficult. I'm thinking about buying this but I'm worried it's too...- madelvice

Recommendation for: circumaural, closed-back, $200-$400, good for progressive/aggressive music (prog-metal, prog-posthardcore, post-rock)
I've been searching the forums without much success finding anything that's not an overwhelming list of headphones in the price range without any indication of quality/characteristics. I'm about to buy an iBasso D7 and I'm looking for a new set of cans to pair with it. I currently have...- madelvice

On the importance of warming up your equipment.
I've always been told that warming up is important to any sort of activity if you want to perform at your best and not injure yourself. (and as a 20-year-old with arthritis I take this to heart.) As anyone who's been floating in the audiophile community the same holds true for headphone...- madelvice

Interest Check - Inland Pacific Northwest Meet?
I'm from Tacoma, but depending on the date/where the meet ends up taking place I could be interested in trekking out. I'd bring AKG 702s and an Audio-GD compass- madelvice

Parametric Equalizer for Mac. Good options?
Sorry I can't give more detailed help: poke around on the internet for a JACK guide. It should be pretty easy to find... I've gotten iTunes to output through JACK so it's certainly possible. JACK isn't amazingly hard but it's not so blatantly obvious that you could necessarily figure it out...- madelvice

Los Angeles meet interest check.
Hey guys, sorry to disappoint. I started looking into it and then school happened and at this point I don't have the time to continue organizing it (well, for this winter at least.) I'll try again (with a bit more forethought) for the next time I'm in town.- madelvice

Newbie help... Please guide me
Unfortunately, hi-fi headphone equipment is a small enough niche that there aren't really easy ways to test stuff out. You might find a store near you, search around head-fi and google for reviews/other forums. You'll probably find some stuff stuff around head-fi about what would be a good...- madelvice

Newbie help... Please guide me
The answer is a little more subtle. The layman's technical explanation (and yes I see the contradiction in that statement) is this: DAC -> turns digital audio files (which ultimately amount to 0s and 1s) into an analog signal. An amplifier amplifies this signal. The reason that people...- madelvice
