Sorry for the bump.. I have a HD 420 SL on my desk right now.. found it at work and askedif I could keep it. But the pads obviously need replacement. Which go on these? The HD 424 ones? The 414 ones?

Very tough call, I got my HD 650's for an amazing price, €150, and I doubt I would find another pair for that price.

Does commuting count as outside? I mean, you're mostly sitting still in a heated place :P About dangers, when I bike with my cx-300's I just look around a lot more at crossings etc. It almost seems safer. I prefer rock/metal to keep my pace going.

I'm running a MK III as a preamp as well. In fact, I was originally looking for a cheaper preamp so that I wouldn't be plugging cables in and out the back of my PC (Auzentech prelude). Get a tripod. It's an absolute must for Macro shots. No worries about mis-focusing, long shutters times, high iso, aperture settings.. yadayadyada..
