    Best In-Ear with a budget of €75 - €130 for running

+1 on the Clip. Get Rockbox on it and never look back!

    Yamaha EPH-100

I want to reiterate what some have already mentioned, but still some are failing to take note of.   These IEMs need burn-in time. Don't expect them to sound great out of the box, burn them in, it's worth the wait.   The fit... can be a royal pain in the ass! I almost gave up on these...

    Best Closed headphones for Electronica

I've had the HD600s and still own the D2000s.... the latter are much better for electronica in my view. The HD600s just didn't cut it... too laid back.   However, as good as the Denons are, the D2000s are hopeless as a portable. The cable is very long and heavyweight, it's frankly a pain in...

Probably.   Perhaps share your impressions when you listen to it?

    Suggestions for Non IEM?

At the risk of appearing rude, your needs are quite generic so a limited search here or elsewhere online would bring up many suggestions.   If you look at the foot of this forum itself, there's a very concise review of over 100 headphones in varying budgets...

    Audio Setup for ATH-M50

I use an Asus Xonar DS soundcard in my desktop. I have my external (mains) DAC connected to the optical output of the Asus. The soundcard wasn't expensive, and was bought primarily for the optical out. The soundcard's DAC was of no consequence, as I use an external one anyway. If you're planning...

    Audio Setup for ATH-M50

Don't worry too much about getting an external sound card for a laptop. Chances are a new laptop will have an optical output which you can hook the e17 up to, and personally I find I have more success with optical out than usb.   I use the e17 with my laptop and also with a sansa clip+...

    FiiO E17 & Sansa Clip+ screen

Useless information of the day, pretty sure they share the same screen. Apologies for the terrible mobile phone pic.     Either nobody else has noticed, or the search engine here is useless. I'm guessing the latter.

Trying to zero in on a compact MP3 solution

Quote:   I have the Yamaha IEM's which I was using with a Cowon D2+.   Yesterday I had a Sansa Clip+ arrive. I've Rockboxed it (to get more tweakability eg; 5 band parametric eq, perfect gapless playback etc), which is free and easy. It's marvellous.   Cheap, small, no-frills...

    Non-USB DAC for about $250

The Spitfire has it's own little power supply, you don't need to buy the Supplier (that's just an upgrade).

    Non-USB DAC for about $250

I rate the Firestone Audio Spitfire DAC, use it myself (although with the external Supplier psu) solely with the optical input. Can be had for £200 in the UK so I suspect it'll be a similar dollar price point.   Few threads knocking about, one here...

    Sansa Clip+ vs Cowon D2+

Got the Clip+ today & loaded up Rockbox. Can't fault it for the money, £26 from Amazon. Bargain.

    SansaClip+ Rockbox Impressions thread

Got my Clip+ today, first thing I did was Rockbox. The EQ is excellent, love having the parameters to play with.   Hooked to my E17, loving it. What a player for the money!

    VSonic Gr07 vs Shure SE315?

    Alpen is the key....

Alpen is the key.... not only for regular bowel movements, but it also unlocks a super-electric-dream-highway connection between source and ears.   I bought it to use as a DAC for the optical output on my laptop when I travel. I haven't tried it on that yet. I thought I would try it between...

    Sansa Clip+ vs Cowon D2+

Maybe I could replace my old mp3 player that I use for the gym with one then. Thanks for the info.

    Yamaha EPH-100

    Sansa Clip+ vs Cowon D2+

Has anyone owned them both?   I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm contemplating getting rid of the D2+ for a smaller player that still handles FLAC, just wondering if it would be worth doing. I'm only interested in using the unit for music playback, nothing else. I don't currently use a...

    Yamaha EPH-100

Mine just arrived. God, I hate plastic vacuum packaging!   Off to Tenerife in the morning for a few days, will see how these fair on flight duties.   I'll have to hire an oxy acetylene torch to get at them first though.

    Yamaha EPH-100

Quote:   Quote: Good point. I was obviously alluding to the pre-dead versions.   As for fit and isolation... the Klipsch were ok, but I never did quite get along with the tips. The size that offered the best isolation and comfort often lodged themselves deep in my ear...

    Yamaha EPH-100

My EPH-100s shipped today, looking forward to hearing how they compare to my dead Klipsch Custom 3, seem to be worth a punt for what they cost here in the UK.

Replicating a desktop sound on the move.... achievable?

I'm off to Afghanistan in a few months - dragging a laptop, dac, psu, valve amp and full size cans around would be impossible.   I love the sound I'm getting with Foobar: big fan of the wasapi output and the dolby headphone wrapper.   I have a Cowon D2+, and have yet to decide on...

iRiver iHP-120 via optical. Wich dac/amp with optical in is the best?

Quote: Unless it runs off batteries, I wouldn't define any amp/dac to be truly "portable".
