How bright were the tubes?  I had a quiet issue when I first built mine, and the tubes were super bright.  I had resistors mixed up. 

I bought a Technics SL-1500 off craigslist a couple weeks ago for $25.  It had a Stanton 681EEE cart on it, with stylus.  Well, the stylus was in terrible condition, and I ended up breaking it...is it worth getting a replacement stylus? Any help is much appreciated Thanks, Mike

Yeah, and don't mix up a 33k and a 390k...you'll end up with it sounding really quiet for a while...than a tube will go out...

So, I have mine all setup and it sounds pretty good!  I have to go through and rewire it with some better wire soon (waiting for solder to come), and some kind of better grounding.  Whateves.  But, one of my tubes is a good deal brighter than my other one.  But there isn't any channel imbalance...

Regardless of sound, they hurt like hell!  I honestly can't have 'em for more then 5 to 10 minutes before I have to take them out.  And my ears hurt for another 10 minutes after that :p

FWIR the 595's are much better than the 555's.  So, if you're willing to pay for 'em, I'd say go for those.  But the only pair you mentioned that I have actually used a lot is the 555's.  And they were pretty damn good.  Not super comfortable, but I have large head.   If there's any possible...

Yeah, you'll find that the Monster's and BOSE aren't highly regarded here...quite despised, actually.  Can you order off the internet?  If you can, I would highly recommend it.  

I don't know gallons about electronics, but it looks like some of your solder joints might be touching the case...I don't think they should be, as your case isn't the ground... I'm not sure if I'm fully correct on this, just my guess.

I currently own the M50s.  I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a (slightly) cheap portable setup.  They are amazing.  And they do have gallons of bass.   But as far as I've read, you won't be disappointed in either of them.  Just pull the trigger and be happy.
