    DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***

    DX200 sounds pretty good to me right out of the box.  Still <10 hours because I want to hear some of the changes as they're occurring.  My impression is that it seemed a little lacking in bass quality and quantity at the moment but imaging is very good.  I think it already surpasses a fully...

    That really would have come in handy.  I ordered a battery this past January and another in February.  I rechecked my box and there's nothing.  That guide might be a good thing for the archive on the first page.

      Interesting.  I had ordered two batteries recently and received no guide on replacement.  It's not very difficult to do, however.

    I have to admit that I didn't contact iBasso.  I was too embarrassed about it because I have a long history of this kind of thing.  Since I couldn't be sure that it wasn't my fault (the wires were under tension as I struggled with it), I didn't think it was right to force them to send me a new...

      OK, just shot a few photos.  The other day I peeled back the blue plastic, which wasn't easy.  Even then it wasn't clear where the black wire (the disconnected one) was attached.  The red one disappears into a mess of circuit board and metal (see pic), which made me think the black one wasn't...

    I ordered a replacement battery in late January and it took a few weeks.  Opening the case wasn't too hard after easing it off after screw removal.  However, one of the wires detached from the battery so I had to order another one.  So frustrating that I have to wait longer now.  I don't know if...

      I can confirm what others have mentioned a few pages back that it works.  Nice to have more space for the 24-96 and 24-192 rips.

    I had taken a month-long break from regular DX-100 listening and this past week came back to it.  Now that is a treat.  I forgot how good and involving music can sound...

      Reloaded fw 1.2.7 and I remember now what you mean about the spacious sound. 1.4.2 does seem to have a little fuller, more articulate bass, but album art and song sequencing works better in 1.2.7 for me. I was pretty much set in staying with 1.4.2 but now I'm not so sure.

      Interesting. Thanks for your reply. I'll have to try 1.2.7 again. I think 1.4.2 has a little better bass, but now that you mention it, I do kinda recall the spaciousness of 1.2.7.

      Just wondering, did you try 1.4.2 and go back? I was curious how many of those who were using 1.2.7 upgraded and stayed with 1.4.2 and how many reverted. I've been happy with 1.4.2 but can't remember what 1.2.7 sounds like anymore. The album art and sorting work better in 1.2.7 in my...

    Quote: It's still a little early but are you preferring this to 1.2.7 right now?  I'm going to have to try it myself.  It's really not a problem switching back but sometimes I'm kinda lazy.  I sort of recall the early consensus on 1.3.5 being positive before some changed back.

    Quote:   I liked 1.1.7 pretty well too and that's what was loaded on the DX100 when I got it.  1.2.7 had a little better bass and imaging to my ears so that was enough not to roll back.  1.3.5 just seemed off to me although certain aspects of the sound seemed improved so I can understand...

    Quote: That sounds about right.  I've kinda been preferring high gain for PortaPros, the volume in the 170-180 range (depending on the recording, occasionally higher).  This is with fw 1.2.7.  I think with 1.1.7 I was using low gain and boosting the volume instead.

    Quote:   The easy ones that I could handle: The Kramer mod and the quarter mod.  If you haven't seen these elsewhere in the forum, the Kramer mod consists of drilling bigger holes in the plastic earpieces so that more sound comes through.  It's a little tricky prying them off but the...

    I'm on firmware 1.2.7 with EQ off.   Just curious, to those who prefer 1.3.7, are you going to straight to headphones or employing an external amp?

    Quote:   I will echo the other comments about not needing high-end headphones to enjoy the DX100.  I have to admit that I've mostly been using modded Portapros (fits my needs in the office) and they sound better than they have any business sounding at that price point.  I would guess that...

    Choice is really the bottom line, isn't it?  We can argue about how the various firmwares sound but all that matters is we're free to pick the one that works best for us individually.  That's such a great thing.   Back to the original joke, yeah, life is hard.    DX100 owners have to pick...

    Quote:   I went back to 1.2.7 from 1.3.5.  "Diffuse" is kinda the same feeling I got with my ears/gears/tunes with 1.3.5.  It wasn't wholly worse, and in fact it seemed like the imaging was better.  But to me the bass weight suffered a little and I didn't quite get the same visceral...
