What Caused This Tube To Fail? [Pics]
I had a 12AU7 go bad on me. What caused this tube to fail? The bad tube (on the left, of course) looks like a snow globe inside. What is the material on the inside top of the tube anyway? I am taking a guess that air intrusion was the culprit.- breakfastchef

2nd Hand Debut III Huming Like Mad; What To Do?
I purchased a Pro-Ject Debut III on Audiogon a few weeks ago. This thing is nearly pristine, but it hums like mad. It is grounded onto the amps, I changed out the cartridge, connected it to my headphone tube amp and a solid state intergrated amp, switched IC's, changed power cords, tried...- breakfastchef

Do You Have a Sacrificial Turntable?
You go to a yard sale, thrift store or other favorite haunt to seek out old vinyl. You come home and furiously clean the cheapo find with an RCM or manual method of your preference. Do you test it out on your 'most excellent' turntable or do you have a sacificial turntable to test the LP before...- breakfastchef

Definitions: Preamp, line stage, phono stage, etc.
It used to be, twenty plus years ago, that high end sound systems had a preamp and amp before the speakers. The preamp usually had things like a source slelector, treble and bass control, perhaps volume and phono preamp, etc. Nowadays, with the introduction of digital sources, the basic sound...- breakfastchef

Impressions of the Shanling PCD3000 CD Player
I saw the Shanling PCD3000 at the Moon Audio booth at Can Jam '08. I like that it is black, it has a small footprint and would look nice with my Woo Audio WA6 SE headphone amp. I have not, though, been able to find many reviews/impressions of this player online. Does anyone own one and wish to...- breakfastchef

Passive 4x2 Audio Source Switcher - Will this Work?
I designed a passive audio source switcher based on the SOCRAM by mb3k Audio (www.mb3k.com) minus the crossfeed circuit and with two less outputs. I want to use a toggle to switch between the outputs from the switcher. Assuming the diagram below is readable, could someone verify that my circuit...- breakfastchef

iBasso D1 > LD MKII > HD595 - Static
I do not generally start a new thread, but I thought the title would peak the interest and feedback of the Head-Fi elite. I just received my LD MKII today and started playing with it (burning it in). I ran into a possible problem when I used my iBasso D1 as a DAC feeding the output to the...- breakfastchef

What If The Telephone Rings
This is my first post on head-fi, so please excuse me if this subject has been beaten to death in the past. When wearing headphones, you essentially block out the world around you. This is good until someone or something needs your attention. What do you folks do when the telephone rings or an...- breakfastchef
