Suggestions for an open-sounding closed set?
I was wondering if you all could point me in the right direction, please. I need a pair of headphones with as much of an open sound as I can get while keeping them pretty closed (at least as far as sound leakage to the outside goes). I'm looking for something with a bit of a V-shaped signature...- Trastan

Recommendation on who could convert my Fostex TH-900 to 4-pin XLR balanced
Hi everyone, Apologies if this isn't the right area for this, but I'd really like to get my TH-900s reterminated to balanced so that I can use them properly with my Mjolnir 2 amp. I believe that the stock cable will support this, but I lack the skill necessary to do this myself. Any...- Trastan

Sennheiser HD650 - right speaker producing lower volume. Any ideas?
It's been a long time since I've posted here last! I've been having some issues with my Sennheiser HD650s, particularly with the right speaker. I'm not sure when the problem started, and they're two years or more out of warranty, so I'm honestly not sure what to do. I've pulled out the cable...- Trastan

Looks like the 3.0 firmware may bring a line-out to Zune!
EDIT: It looks like you use this: http://www.zune.net/en-US/products/s.../details.page/ Check this out: Quote: SoundGate Core System * Sound output via Zune sync cable * Sync cable is like ‘line out’ output as opposed to the variable volume analog output of headphone jack *...- Trastan

Achieving the "airy" sound of speakers - is it possible?
Well, it's been a while since I've last posted, but it's been good to just settle in and form some opinions on my personal audio goals. My current setup, for reference: - Computer as source (primarily Foobar with Kernel Streaming) via an Auzentech X-Mystique and coax digital output. -...- Trastan

Modding the iGrado: Suggestions for a recabling?
Hey all. I'm working on modding my iGrados to get them to sound their best. I've opened them up (despite being new, they seem to not have been hotglued!) and removed the foam backing, but I'd love to do a recabling job while I'm in here. I'd like to know what a good, decent cable option would...- Trastan

Upgrading my amp/source: Worthy gains, or negligible difference?
I have to say, this whole digital/analog/DAC/optical/coax/amp/receiver confusion has me pretty lost. To better understand my current setup's level, and what could improve on it, here's my setup to the letter: - Auzentech X-Mystique soundcard, outputting kernel-streamed music through foobar2k...- Trastan

DT990: Tons of sibilance?
Has anyone else has this problem? Nearly every song I play has such piercing highs that I end up having to tone down the treble pretty substantially. Admittedly my DT990s are pretty new (between 50-75 hours of break-in, typically with pink noise), but I haven't had this issue with the DT880s...- Trastan

Beyer 880 VS Grado SR-325i
All right, I just couldn't decide. Being completely new to the head-fi world, the best 'phones I've heard remain the SR-60s. With that in mind, I've been mulling over a new set, and decided (through three previous threads, and a big thanks to everyone who helped me!) that it's going to be either...- Trastan

Beyer DT 880 sans amp?
I've decided to upgrade recently, and have been looking hard at the Grado 325is, but I'd like to make sure that I know exactly what I'm doing. My question is pretty simple: how does a Beyerdynamic DT 880 sound without an amp? More specifically, I'll be using a Denon home receiver to power...- Trastan

Closing in: A beginner's quest for the right set
First of all, I would like to thank everyone here for being polite, courteous, and considerate in my various beginner questions. I believe that I am closing on my next (and likely last for a good while) pair of headphones, and I would appreciate any assistance I can get before I make the plunge...- Trastan

The next step: Headphones after SR-60
All right, this one I actually blame on the fabled KSC-75s. I'm a very portable-oriented listener, using (most recently) my Cowon D2 with these babies everywhere I go. The result is that I'm fairly spoiled on their (for the price, I assume) great clarity and sensitivity in the high-end. Coming...- Trastan
