Reterminating DT880
My friend recently dropped my laptop with my headphones plugged in, and the jack on my DT880's snapped. I posted in the cable section about recabling services, but it looks like recabling the DT880 involves boutique cables and/or balanced, and cost as much as the headphones themselves. Since...- royalcrown

Stock Recable
Unfortunately, the jack on my DT-880 snapped, and I am in need of a replacement cable. I'm not up to the task of a recable, but it seems that everyone offering to recable headphones will only do so with high-end and dual-entry cables. Is there anyone that will do headphone recables with stock...- royalcrown

The validity of ABX testing
This is a pretty simple thread, but I decided to make a separate thread because I want to get as many answers as possible without threadjacking. I think it's safe to assume that at least a handful of people on this forum believe that double blind testing is invalid as a form of testing, and...- royalcrown

Effects of biwiring
Since this is more technical, I decided to post this thread here. I was reading an article located here: interstices://audio/index.html "Biwiring reduces back EMF effects by interposing the impedance of two runs of speaker cable between the stages. Since a solid state power amp's output...- royalcrown

An interesting take on DBT
So I found a very interesting argument posed by a member of a New Zealand audiophile forum. Quote: Blind testing of something that is measured subjectively is inherently flawed, and perception of what good audio sounds like is usually subjective. I work in a field where the...- royalcrown

Stax frequency response graph
Not much to it other than the title, does anyone know where I can get a frequency response graph for various Stax headphones? I'm most interested in the 202/303/404, but any models would be appreciated. Thanks.- royalcrown

On the DAC...
OK, there's far too little data available on this topic. Is there any hard data on the upper level of DACs solely for the playback of audio? I see plenty of reason to buy pro soundcards and the such for recording, and I see reason for buying expensive gaming soundcards to get that last frame per...- royalcrown

op-amp sound differences
This may belong somewhere else, but since I think the DIY forum would know more about this... I'm pretty much a neophyte to audio electronics, and I definitely don't have the stuff of engineers. However, I'm just trying to learn more about te electronics aspect of audio, so this question is...- royalcrown

The role of opamps in a DAC
I have a question mainly regarding the electronic aspect of the DAC: if I'm only using the line-out of a specific DAC, and using a separate amplifier to drive my headphones, do the opamps/amp circuit of a given DAC matter? Are they used in producing a line-out, or just for amplification after...- royalcrown

Advantages of discrete amplification stages
Maybe this should go into the headphone amp section, but since it deals with circuit design, I figured I might get more substantive responses: From the perspective of an end user, what is the benefit of having a fully discrete amplification stage as opposed to one done with opamps? Is there a...- royalcrown

Is music made for audiophiles?
After getting a nice pair of headphones and a respectable headphone amp, I've been revisiting a lot of old tracks, only to notice MUCH more detail in the tracks. I don't necessarily mean being able to hear, say, the texture in a guitar strum (though that's there for sure), but I'm specifically...- royalcrown

Is "normal" solder gone for good?
So here I am looking at an eBay auction for 10 mil 63/37 solder (about 20 bucks shipped for a pound - no idea if that's cheap or not because I can't look to the new stock product pages =/). I've looked at Mouser and Digi-Key, and none of them sell normal (and by that I mean non-lead-free, which...- royalcrown

Solid state desktop amps for a reasonable price?
So I tried searching, but I got nothing. I probably phrased it wrong, so if that's the case my bad. There's a multitude of portable SS amps at the 100-200 dollar price point, and there's also a selection of desktop tube amps at that approximate price range. However, I have no patience for the...- royalcrown

Audio-Technica frequency response
Just out of curiosity, does anybody have frequency response graphs of Audio Technica headphones? I see plenty on headroom, but seeing as they don't sell A-T headphones, and due to AT's being Japanese and featured on Japanese websites that I can't crawl through very well, I'm asking here. I tried...- royalcrown

weird kernel streaming problem.
I'm not sure if this problem stems from foobar, my sound card (Chaintech AV-710), or those two in combination. Hopefully this is in the right forum =/. So I finally decided, after much messing around, to stop using winamp and start using foobar - I just couldn't get Kernel Streaming to work...- royalcrown

LME49710 - any use in a cmoy?
So I randomly stumbled upon these opamps: http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LME49710.html Seeing the "free sample" box, I decided to grab a sample and see what I could do with them. Upon their arrival, however, I started to wonder... what CAN I do with them? So my question: Can these work...- royalcrown

New T-Amp?
I tried searching for this beforehand (because I'm never up to date on audio stuff) but I couldn't find anything on this. Google doesn't seem to bring much up about it either. My apologies if this has already been brought up (I have a feeling that it has). Also, dunno if this is in the right...- royalcrown

mp3gain/replaygain question
I'm currently using winamp (I know some people prefer foobar but I have my reasons) and in it there's a feature for replaygain. I currently use mp3gain as an external folder to gain my files (it has a feature I like included that's absent from winamp's: max no-clip gain). My question: if I...- royalcrown

Stranded or Solid?
So far in building my cmoy, I've used wires that I've found off old PC cables. They work, but I figure a more elegant solution is needed. WHat I wanna know is, stranded or solid? I'm not 100% sure on whic hto get. I know stranded is more flexible, but from what I've noticed the strands tend to...- royalcrown

cmoy problem x_x
Hi everyone. I just built a cmoy amp (followed the tangentsoft guide) and I've come into a little bit of a problem... The sound works like it should (I think, it's pretty darn loud, but that's probably due to my headphones) as long as the unit's out of the penguin mints tin, yet for some...- royalcrown
