Best $600 - $1000 light(er)-weight headphones?
As I mentioned in this thread, I have a pair of HE-500s (17.6 oz) which I can no longer wear for more than about 30 minutes at a time due to the interaction of their weight and my TMJ. I've gone back to the Beyer DT 990s for the time being, which at about 10.25 oz. are MUCH lighter and thus able...- Avi

HE-560 vs HE-500: Weight and TMJ
I wear headphones hours at a time at work (3, 4, 5, sometimes more). I have a pair of HE-500s which I like a lot, but I find that the weight really exacerbates my TMJ to the point that I cannot use them any longer, and will probably have to sell them. I have not had this issue with my...- Avi

Considering an HE-500 - will I need an amp upgrade? (I hope not!)
I'm seriously considering purchasing an HE-500. I currently have a Meier Corda Stepdance for work use and a Corda Jazz for home use. I've been reading older threads, and, unfortunately, I could not find discussions about those particular pairings. My hunch from my research is that I should be OK...- Avi

In theory, is it better to downsample from 192 to 96 or go straight 96?
This may be a somewhat silly question in that I almost certainly could not hear the difference. However, in theory, if my DAC (DACport LX) can only handle up to 96/24, am I better off getting music at 96/24 or 192/24 and downsampling to 96. Eventually (a year or three) I will probably get a...- Avi

Rockbox 3.1.2 implements Meier Crossfeed for all units
Please see http://www.rockbox.org/mail/archive/rockbox-archive-2010-10/0005.shtml for the description and http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/11767 for the implementation. My immediate impression is that it is certainly much more frequency neutral and subtle. Sometimes, I can barely hear a...- Avi

Meier Corda Jazz and Beyerdynamic T90?
Maybe this is blasphemy, but I am very happy with the pairing of my Meier StepDance and Beyerdynamic DT 990 Premium (250 Ohms). Unfortunately, I recently got bitten by a rare insect, Headfiius Walletdranius Vulgaris, and am strongly considering the purchase of a T 90 and the Corda Jazz to run...- Avi

HiFiMan-801limited to SDHC, correct?
The HM801 is limited to SDHC (32GB) cards, and cannot use the larger SDXC (64, and now there is a 128GB - but that is super-expensive) correct, or can it use the larger SDXC cards? Thanks.- Avi

Does it make sense to upgrade to DT990/600 from DT990/250?
While I would like a T1, I'm not certain I can justify the 4-6X price differential. I've seen the FT990/600 for as cheap as $269; is it that much of an upgrade over the DT990/250? FOr what it is worth, I bought the 990/250 in 2006/7. I understand it may have been improved since then. ...- Avi

iMod + Auricap Line Out Dock
I just wanted to thank Ken publicly for his service. I'm now listing to a Vinnie Special (aka iMod 5.5G 80GB) through a Purple Heart Line-Out iMod (Auricap) dock. Simply amazing, and I cannot wait until the dock (and the iMod and the Hornet for that matter) are properly burnt in. Another...- Avi

NOMAD Jukebox 3 replacement
As sad as it may be, I think that my Jukebox is starting to go. The lineouts are still working, and at work I have it feeding a Govibe MkV (AS8620/AD8610) with the 24 volt power supply and they feed Beyer DT990(2005-250 Ohms). However at home, I admit, I sometimes plug directly into the...- Avi

Is 600Ω worth $120
I'm seriously considering a Beyer DT990 as the next step beyond my HF-1. To get the 600 Ohm version will cost me approximately $120 more than the 250, not counting shipping. I'm already springing for for a Go-Vobe Mk V (to complement my Mk IV and Mk III ), and would now possibly consider a...- Avi

Has anyone compared the 2006 DT990 with either the old or new DT880?
There have been soem good comparisons between the old 990 and 880, and some snippets of comparisons between the old and new 990, but I cannot find (perhaps I just need more coffee) a comparison between the new 990 and the 880. Thanks.- Avi

Some direction as to where next: or are there Beyers in my future?
I've thought myself into circles here, and would appreciate some advice from the various headphone-sensei's here as to where to go next. My current phones of choice are, obviously, the HF-1's. However, I have been bitten a bit by the HeadFi bug, and want to try something a bit different...- Avi

This may not be the absolutely most proper forum for this question, but I see most of the talk here, so here goes After being bitten, hard, by the Head-Fi bug, I have come to the realization that my 128 CBR mp3's are not going to cut it anymore So, after on-line research, I decided to...- Avi

Grado Headphone Case
Now that I have the HF-1's, I'd like to listen to them both at work and at home. I actually end up listening more at work, but no way am I leaving them here. Other than repacking them into the signed box every night, does theer exist something like a headphone case that I could use for...- Avi

My head is spinning, may I have some advice?
I'm a relative newbie to this forum, so please bear with me. I have always liked to get the best sound out of whatever I was running, but having been recently introduced to this forum, I was blown away by the expertise and advice available here. So, after reading a zillion posts, I decided...- Avi
