#500
Weeeeeeee this is my 500th post. This post could potentially be a waste of space, but I'm going to say something meaningful instead. Regardless, I would like to thank everyone in the head-fi community who is awesome, especially n_maher for hooking me up with a totally awesome amp- fante7

Jimmy Smith
A friend of mine recently played an old Jimmy Smith LP for me, and I really enjoyed it. I love the classic Hammond organ sound. Any recommendations on which Jimmy Smith albums to start with? -
The DT880 Appreciation Thread
I have been using the DT880 religiously now for several months. Man, this thing sounds great... I like it more than any other headphone I've listened to within the triple-digit price range. It offers a balanced presentation with plenty of detail, great instrument separation and soundstage, and...- fante7

DT990 Initial Impressions
I've listened to the DT990 for several hours now. I bought it used and it is probably well broken in. Fortunately it does fit my large head, with the headband on full extension. Most of the comparison will be with the DT880 as reference. I first tried it with the 12AE6A tubes in my Millett, but...- fante7

Minstrel in the Gallery by Jethro Tull remaster?
Does anybody have both the older CD pressing and the remastered version of Minstrel in the Gallery? I have the remastered version and it sounds kind of thin and sucked dry. I recall reading something about how the noise reduction done when digitally remastering these albums can cause this. Does... -
Bassy/warm complement for the DT880
Lately, I have been tiring of my HF-1 because I just don't think the Grado sound is for me. It is way too fatiguing - I get tired of the sound quickly. So I am looking for a different home headphone to complement my beloved DT880. I really enjoy the sound of the DT880 but it is a little dry and...- fante7

Laptop Improvement
Okay, being the college student I am, I own a laptop and not a desktop. I want a source for my laptop with an unamped line out so I can connect it to my millett hybrid. My computer source is currently a bithead, which doesn't fit this role. What options do I have? I am looking to spend probably...- fante7

Millett Hybrid tubes?
I just read Pete Millett's article, and apparently I can use the 12AJ6, 12EL6, and 12FT6 tubes in my Millett Hybrid. I don't believe I have heard anything about these tubes on head-fi. Does anybody have experience with these tubes? Could I just plug them in without adjusting the "bias" or...- fante7

Amp with DT880 and Onix XCD-88, ~$300?
So the head-fi upgrade bug strikes again and I'm considering an upgrade. One system I'm thinking of getting is Onix XCD-88 -> some amp -> DT880. What are some recommended (synergistic) ways to fill in the blank? I'm thinking no more than $300 or so but I could stretch if necessary. I listen to...- fante7

My grandfather is an audiophile...
Well, I've always known that my grandfather is a full-blown audiophile. I was just talking with my father about audio equipment, and he mentioned that my grandfather has one of the best turntables in the world. I think he might have the Proscenium. I am definitely going to have to ask him about...- fante7

Pioneer SE-20?
My dad has these headphones, the Pioneer SE-20. They are from the 60s, and they're circumaural and closed. They say "8 ohm" on the earcup, I assume that's the impedance. Anyone know anything about these? My dad said they came in a really nice leather case with a satin interior.- fante7

How large is your head?
I think I have a pretty large head. When a friend listens to one of my headphones, they usually have to retract the headband a lot. I usually wear my HD555 at 13-14 clicks on either side of the headband. What do you guys do?- fante7

Onix XCD-88 vs. Marantz CD5400
Which one of these two players have better sound quality, Onix XCD-88 or Marantz CD5400? I believe they're both $299. I don't know that much about dedicated source components, but I've heard good things about both of these.- fante7

Bad restaurant experience
So, I'm in Akron, Ohio for the summer. This is definitely not the place to get Italian food. I went to an Italian restaurant for dinner tonight, and I asked the waitress what kind of cheese was on the white pizza. Now, I love getting white pizza in New York where it has ricotta cheese on it, and...- fante7

What headphones have these characteristics?
I'm looking for headphones that are good for heavy metal and rock... energetic I guess. Isolation and portability are not important to me, so I would generally prefer large open headphones. I also want them to be strong in these areas: 1) Soundstage 2) Detail 3) Comfort I am tending to...- fante7

Alessandro MS-pro?
Lately, it seems that the MS-1 and MS-2i get a lot of attention on these boards, but the MS-pro is a rare mention. Are they considered inferior to the other high end dynamic headphones? Maybe not a lot of people have them?- fante7

Symphony X - The Odyssey sound quality
I have 192 kbps mp3s of this album, and the cymbals sound absolutely terrible. The rest of the music sounds okay. Are the cymbals just recorded badly or are my mp3s crap? The hi-hat sounds the worst. -
CD playback software
Does it matter what software I use for CD playback on my computer, in terms of pure sound quality (and not features)? I'm using a BitHead through the USB port on my computer.- fante7
