X-Fi Xtreme: are any particular editons good or bad? Windows drivers post XP?

EDIT: card is gone so the questions are moot, but thanks to Nameless for the quick history lesson below, it's much appreciated!   There is a small possibility that I could get an X-Fi xtreme for approx €30-€35, I need to find out which version it is, but I have questions anyway as I've...

Recon3D *USB* or other HRTF positional audio solution for SFF / mini-ITX systems? CMSS, Dolby Headphone & THX Trustudio Pro

The concept behind the Recon3D USB soundcard seems great, but it doesn't look like a product that has great sound quality and as far as I can tell there is no CMSS or Dolby Headphone. So I'm wondering, what alternatives are there that might be of better sound quality and/or allow users to choose...

Titanium HD dimensions - how long is the card?

does anyone have a length measurement for the Creative Titanium HD card? Note that Creative's dimensions as stated on the US product page are wrong e.g. note the width is stated as 2.4" (~61mm) but single PCI slot width is only ~15mm.   so what are the correct dimensions? Thanks

FAO Nankai - RE262 and old (RE-ZERO) giveaway thread

Hi, I've been very reluctant to create this thread as it feel like bad form somehow, so I hope no offence is caused. However I have previously tried to contact you via PM and the email address(es) published on the your website. I assumed no reply was due to lack of product availability and no...

AAC on Linux - anything more convenient than Rhythmbox? as it apparently can't deal with track numbers of AAC files

Has anyone got a good way to manage AAC files on Linux? I'm using Fedora 12 (with GNOME) and I'd like a convenient way to manage my ipod nano. Soundconverter seems OK for making AAC from FLAC files, but Rhythmbox doesn't read the track numbers when you import AAC - it's a real PITA because...

Headstage Arrow 12HE equivalent for desktop use & IEMs? looking for better price v. performance in UK

I guess the Headstage Arrow 12HE is an odd comparison on the full size amp forum, but I'm unfamiliar with most of the brands and headphone amps I'm reading about here on Head-Fi so please excuse my ignorance! I don't have an absolute need for the slimline form factor, but there are a few things...

Search options and defaults are frustrating and suggested improvements

Great forum, looks nice and clean, great advice available - but it's tough to find at times. My $0.02 on how it can be improved:   search results display a go to latest post button/link would be very helpful, and should cut down the number of page loads required.   relevancy as the...

How do you choose or justify a custom IEM? impossible to demo properly and what if you don't like it?

I've been reading through some of the threads discussing the likes of JH Audio, ACS and Earsonics and I'm intrigued. Now I can see that when a custom works out to be the excellent fit it's supposed to be, combined with a near ideal sound suited to the listener's taste, the the price may be...

    comfortable fit + comfortable sound?

Hi all, I've been lurking here for a while trying to build up a short list IEMs that might be suitable to replace some disappointing Sony's. After reading some of the recommendations on the higher end comparison threads I have something of short list, but still quite a few reservations about...
