oh yes, that is definitely the only way to judge a HP and make sure NOT to listen to them only to adhere to the harman curve or whatever- jlbrach

to me RAAL HP's are made for tube amps and the Imannis is no different..the envy with upgraded tubes and the Imannis is truly special...spent the evening last night going through different musical genres and I was simply overwhelmed how good the combo was- jlbrach

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
yesterday I mentioned my initial thoughts regarding the Imannis with the VM-1a..today I am taking it out for a drive with my envy...initial thoughts with the envy are it is incredibly dynamic...hits hard and is huge sounding...outstanding....it is actually a couple of clicks easier to drive the...- jlbrach

the dynamic range is definitely high..I was listening to some steely dan and initially thought I had the volume too low but the swings are quite dramatic ...only on really hot masters with little or no dynamic range is it not the case...if you listen to oasis it starts loud and stays loud lol- jlbrach

my question is why we waste so much time discussing these 2 guys opinions...everyone is entitled to an opinion and if they dont like the HP who cares honestly?.I have read 2 reviews thus far that go so far as to call the Imannis the best HP available now...I personally am not comfortable with...- jlbrach

I owned the sol p for a while..liked it but it is very overpriced..if it retailed for 4k it would be a contender but at 7 k there are too many better- jlbrach

I must say I always assume that anyone who gives their opinion as to what is better is doing so subjectively...unless of course we are at the ASR site- jlbrach

the envy as an amp alone is so much better than the 280 that is seems rather silly to use it as a preamp...in fact the envy has so much gain that I am kind of surprised you would need to do that....if it works for you god bless- jlbrach

The Reference 6SN7 Thread
yes as a newbie to the tube world I find pricing somewhat frustrating since I see prices of tubes 10 times more than others simply because they are 50 yrs old etc...very tough to distinguish although pretty easy in the 300b world since there are so few top end contenders- jlbrach

98 pounds is simply too heavy for me to consider for a headphone amp..I dont doubt it is great but having to grab 2 buddies to help me move it doesnt work for me lol....my old mcintosh 452 power amp weighed a ton when I had my 2 channel setup..my envy is heavy enough, I think it is 33 pounds or...- jlbrach
