How do you measure sound stage?
Totally respect your opinion and others about the HD800S, but I can’t hide my relative disappointment: my HD800S do sound very good… especially to “analyze” anything treble-related, but I never got this “magic” everybody’s talking about. I think their performances in term of sound stage result...- XTF1

Would a Qudelix T71 plugged to the R4 do that? I have both, but have very little experience with surround sound and its various flavors.- XTF1

Why Is There Not More Pushback Against Active Noise Cancelling Headphones
Wow…!!! I thought your OP was a honest question, but it appears you just want that, more pushback against ANC headphones…- XTF1

Can you hear upscaling?
I believe it is trivial to re-encode a 16-bit audio file into 24-bit by, for example, padding zeros—no gain in quality, no way to “create” something that was not here to start with. Is there a name for this process, or family of processes?- XTF1

Why Is There Not More Pushback Against Active Noise Cancelling Headphones
Completely agree: I use my AirPods Pro 2 all the time when on the go—they are at a minimum “good enough” and, IMO, close to “great”. My ML 5909…? Sure, they are much, much, better… but they stay at home.- XTF1

Look! MOONDROP's First HiFi Smartphone, MIAD01
Great insights from real world experience! My takeaway is that the Moondrop MIAD01is a good phone and good DAP combo, but neither a great phone nor a great DAP, and that’s a problem for me: I’m not ready to compromise anything in the phone side, not even the camera… So for now, I still prefer...- XTF1

Why Is There Not More Pushback Against Active Noise Cancelling Headphones
I have a ML 5909 and it’s my preferred HP of all the kind…. I used them mostly at home, rarely with ANC. To me, it proved that a perfectly fine ANC headphones is doable. My only “pushback”: the price.- XTF1

HiBy Digital M300 Android Digital Audio Player,"The Gen-Z Music Player" - Discussion thread
Just curious: is it truly an Android 13 limitation? A lot of work and new developments undertaking? Or, a deliberate choice to not bother, considering the M300 target users?- XTF1

HiBy Digital M300 Android Digital Audio Player,"The Gen-Z Music Player" - Discussion thread
I’m pretty sure there is nothing special about these batteries: just check whether it has its own protection(it should, that would be a small chip at the top of the battery, where the wires go out). Then any good quality lipo pouch battery, even smaller in size (lower capacity), should work as...- XTF1

The Qudelix-5K thread
I believe you are correct about the sound of 2.5 “active ground” vs. 2.5 “balanced”: not much difference if any. But the purpose of active ground is precisely for these HP/IEM that cannot be wired “balanced”, or these amps that have SE-only inputs: active ground can bring some benefits vs...- XTF1

The Qudelix-5K thread
Not sure I understand your point: why do say it’s not differential? The 5K uses two ES9219C, each one being a dual channel DAC/Amp, so 4x channels total. In SE mode, I believe only one of the ES9219’s is used, so it’s 2x DAC/Amp (I don’t think the above diagram is correct…). The “balanced”...- XTF1

Can you hear upscaling?
I don’t have enough history to assess how the mods manage this subforum. However, in other parts of Head-Fi, if one post contains a hint of what looks to be science, it is unceremoniously flagged and the poster is directed toward the science subforum… Ok… except members here still have to deal...- XTF1

Low-budget first time iem
Zero2, Tanchjim’s Zero / One / Tanya, KZ Castor… I use the DSP version of the Tanchjim’s (also have the 3.5mm), and use Zero2 + Moondrop CDSP or FreeDSP cable. Can’t stop playing with these: listening to what’s different, and trying to figure out why, and what PEQ(s) would that be…- XTF1

Second that. I also have 3x 5K and 1x T71 (and several PEQ-enabled cables for my IEMs). I have limited experience with FiiO products: like the HW… not impressed by the SW. I also agree that support is one area Qudelix could improve a lot. The 5K (and T71!) is great, but can quickly become...- XTF1

Look! MOONDROP's First HiFi Smartphone, MIAD01
Interesting… if my machine translation is correct, this may be a Moondrop problem in the end, but some of the SRC bypass issues are caused by “unexpected” behaviors of PowerAmp (forcing some Android default settings that then affect every app) and HiBy music (using features from a different...- XTF1

Good one !!!:beerchug::beerchug::beerchug: That being said… if one is willing to procure a second battery to replace the original, then one should not worry about all of these questions: just replace the battery when it’s dead [issue solved]- XTF1

NEW HiBy R4
I don’t think it’s possible… Darwin is the code name for HiBy’s proprietary R2R architecture. The R4 uses traditional DAC chips instead: the (ESS) ES9018C2M chips instead of (R2R) discrete components. Two fundamentally different architectures.- XTF1

In addition to @Joe Bloggs questions, could you explain what you mean by “Apple Lossless tunes from my collection of burned CD’s”: were those tracks already in Apple Lossless format (ALAC) on your burned CDs? …or did you get Apple Lossless format tracks through Apple Music match feature, but...- XTF1

NEW HiBy R4
I just received my R4 and did some tests with the 'Device Info HW' app listed in a post above. I played an album through HiBy Music, with no PEQ, MSEB, or Plugin active. I then did the same thing with a system-wide PEQ filter (low-shelf), MSEB active (overall temp. slightly darker), and DRX10K...- XTF1

I’m sure It’s not going to help, but the backplate falling off is most likely a consequence of a bad battery: the battery bulged, maybe not that much, but enough to push the backplate out. It’s actually a pretty good & safe design, you know for sure that something is wrong with the battery by...- XTF1
