I believe it's just a preliminary approximation for now. Kind of a "placeholder" for what they are planning to produce in the future AFAIK. But according to listener's article that I posted about a couple days ago, it was a big surprise to the Headphones.com folks just how close it was to...- Hypops

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
"Psychoacoustics" is right up there with "placebo" for the ways in which both terms are deliberately misused and deliberately misunderstood. Unfortunately, the people most likely to abuse the terms are also the least likely to take the time to read what you've written. They think humans are just...- Hypops

This is (mostly) not true. Often, balanced has roughly twice the voltage on output compared to single ended--not always, but more often than not. So, no, they do not usually have the same volume on output. It could be that we're talking about totally different kinds of sources though. I'm not a...- Hypops

The goal (I hope) is not to tune everything to a single standard. Moondrop is still gonna Moondrop. No matter the tools, they're gonna stick to their slightly modified version of in-ear Harman. Using a single line incorrectly implies that the Harman (or pick your target poison) preferences are...- Hypops

HifiMan HE6 V2 Adorama
Budget concerns are entirely your own to decide, obviously. But if you can get the HE6se v2 for 350Euros, you could buy it and try it with your current amp. If it works, awesome. If it doesn't, you can always sell it and still come out even (or possibly ahead). I personally wouldn't invest in a...- Hypops

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.
I'm firmly in the "use cases" camp, which also is directly related to the "amp in every location" camp. I've got a speaker rig in my living room which also doubles as a living room headphone listening area. A desktop headphone rig for listening while working and playing. A mobile headphone...- Hypops

Don't get me wrong. I'm a regular watcher of his channel. I just don't take his "reviews" seriously as reviews. I treat them as what they are: product announcements. Watching his channel is the equivalent of watching game or movie previews.- Hypops

Man, he makes himself so easy to dunk on. But seriously, despite his channel's name he's really not a reviewer. He's an influencer who just promotes stuff and flips it at his "yard sales." I genuinely believe he likes the stuff he "reviews" and sells, but he's ultimately just an online retailer...- Hypops

Truth for sure. But as a budget-conscious hobbyist myself, I’ve been super confused, challenged, and perplexed by the inaccuracies and inconsistencies of the many, many 711 graphs that circulate here, in written and YT reviews, on squig.link, and so on. It’s reassuring (for me at least) to see...- Hypops

I finally got around to reading @listenerwww 's lengthy rundown of the current state of IEM measurements, the ongoing issues with 711 measurements, and what listener expects from IEMs in the wake of the B&K5128. HifiMan HE6 V2 Adorama
Seems good power-wise. If you already find the Sundara “too clinical” though, you will likely find the HE6 even more so. For me, they’re so clinical (even with EQ) that I mostly only use mine for gaming and movie watching. I really, really like them, just not for music. Others disagree with my...- Hypops

“Upgrades” are in the ears of the beholder of course, but I would say that that’s an excellent price for an excellent headphone. Just know that the HE6se v2 comes with a few important caveats that you’ll want to address (required amp power, stiff headband, ill-suited stock ear pads), but is...- Hypops

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?
The Sivga Nightingale take to EQ as well as my Hifiman HE6se v2. With enough amp power to make up for the required headroom, I can boost the crap out of the low end with zero audible distortion. Because the stock upper treble is so wildly elevated, the added bass balances out just fine. These...- Hypops

The Qudelix-5K thread
Agreed. It’s all about trade offs from a UI design perspective. You have to choose on a spectrum between ease-of-use or super-customizable. Qudelix def leans toward the customizable end of the spectrum. Not sure how it works, but at a guess, it could be about the degree of global feedback used...- Hypops

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?
Surprisingly I haven’t needed to do much tip rolling with the Sivga. Started with the Divinus Velvet and stuck with them. Gives me all the bass and clarity these IEMs can spare (which isn’t much!). I haven’t tried the Sancai, or much else on them for that matter. These really were a great set...- Hypops
