Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!
You honestly think Shure doesn't know how to measure distortion? Please people, when will you stop giving manufacturers the benefit of the doubt and realize they are playing you for fools. These aren't designed to distort for a certain effect. Give me a break. They just weren't designed...- rhythmdevils

Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!
Saying it was such a concious choice gives them way too much credit. They don't have that much control over the drivers or the final sound, if they did, they would sound better. The problems are because of them not having control, not investing the time to make a better driver that didn't...- rhythmdevils

Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!
There's a lot of open back phones that have more bass with less distortion. I think it's making excuses for them, not a choice they made. This is 2012. With all the new materials we have over the past couple decades, headphones should be improving.- rhythmdevils

Wishful thinking at best. There is a reason everyone loves the LCD-2 bass. Flat, extended, fast, low distortion.- rhythmdevils

AKG K550 - Unboxing, REVIEW and measurements. The holy trifecta subjective and objective smack down.
Yup, it's mine. Thank you very much! I was going to make a bunch more unboxing parodies but I don't think it's worth it considering how many views that one has.- rhythmdevils

AKG K550 - Unboxing, REVIEW and measurements. The holy trifecta subjective and objective smack down.
I added a full review to the first post. I wrote it a couple months ago but it was in the review section where no one ever goes. This is now a rather complete analysis with the unboxing video, review, and measurements.- rhythmdevils

Treble-centric headphones...?
And Tyll has an ideal curve as well. Notice how all the best headphones are flat from bass through midrange, then dip, then peak at 9k, then dip and peak again. That's not their actual response, that's what his measurement rig is adding to their response. it doesn't mean they all actually...- rhythmdevils

Treble-centric headphones...?
Quote: This is very wrong. You don't understand how to read these graphs. There is an "ideal curve" that represents neutral. You can think of it like a scale that's not zero'ed out. Those dips are not dips to the human ear, they are dips only relevant to the measurement...- rhythmdevils

Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!
Quote: If you followed Purrin's CSD plot thread, you would already know that he listens first because he spent months posting subjective impressions, followed up with csd measurements. He was usually spot on, but not always. Quote: It doesn't take me a week to...- rhythmdevils

Headphone CSD waterfall plots
It seems they have slightly less bass distortion than the ksc-75/35/porta pro. How would you compare the distortion in the rest of the spectrum vs ksc-75?- rhythmdevils

Reply to review by 'rhythmdevils' on item 'AKG K 550'
The M50 is also better in every way except soundstage. The only reason you'd prefer the K550 is if soundstage is a huge deal to you, or if you want a bass-lite sound signature AND you're not sensitive to resonant peaks in response. Technically speaking, the M50 is the better headphone in every...- rhythmdevils

I Don't Understand You Subjective Guys
Which is why the sound science forum is irrelevant and no one cares. Let's take a bunch of people who have no idea what they're talking about, put them in an isolated forum, and pontificate endlessly about an objective only approach to a subjective experience. You all need to get out more.- rhythmdevils

I Don't Understand You Subjective Guys
This is also why we need subjectivity. So we know we're measuring something wrong because the HD800 is clearly both faster, and cleaner than the HD650. These graphs show you what happens when you use objectivity only. You start measuring things poorly, and just keep doing it blindly because...- rhythmdevils

I Don't Understand You Subjective Guys
I'm sorry but Goldenears measurements are complete crap. Just look at their M50 measurements: What, did the driver get stuck? Read Purrin's post above carefully. Even when they manage to start their mesurements at roughly the right time, they are so smoothed and averaged, they're...- rhythmdevils
