Focals definitely have QC issues, particulary drivers that randomly stop working. Look how many broken pairs are on eBay at any given time. Audeze have mostly ironed out their issues over the years and the 3 year warranty is solid. You still need to be careful with them though. Ultimately I...

I don't think you can beat Audeze for bass centric music which is why I'll always have a pair. Bottomless sub bass with lots of detail. The Focals will have a punchier mid-bass though which some people may perceive as sounding 'better'. Just see which you prefer.

Normal. The variance depends on the pads usually as they're handmade so never perfectly equal. My right ear touched the fazors on my old pads and my left ear on the new pads. If it bothers you, you can contact Audeze they will send you some spacers that go inside the pads and keep the drivers...

Oh for sure - was just giving a heads up that if you buy a set used it may be worth investing in a new pair of pads. My old pads did not look worn at all but the foam inside had softened which appears to have a noticeable impact on the bass response. More than I was expecting at least.

I think you'll be fine, I run my Audeze LCD2's off my hip-dac and they are harder to drive. With the high gain switch on it's plenty loud with the vol at 12 o'clock.

These were just like for like replacements of my originals, wasn't aware of a newer revision. I guess as the pads lose shape and soften up over the years it alters the sound signature a lot more than you realise until you A\B with a new pair.

So I replaced the 3 year old earpads with a fresh set and it's like a new headphone. Wasn't expecting to hear such a difference in bass quantity and slam. It also fixed a slight channel imbalance and my ears no longer touch the fazors. The old pads looked fine but the foam was soft and they felt...
