The JVC HA-S500 thread.
I think you're in for a lot of experimenting if you are determined to shift the sound profile by making physical changes. My best guess is that if the denser leather pads made it less boomy at the low end, you might try foam pads that are less dense than the originals. I find that I can achieve...- visiblink

Hisense Touch E-ink Android DAP
Here's a review: https://goodereader.com/blog/reviews/hisense-touch-music-player-hands-on-review There are videos at the bottom of the page. Apparently the built-in speakers are amazing. On the negative side, there is no SD card storage. The device is 128GB and only about 100GB free with the OS...- visiblink

New Cowon V
I just got one of these and it's endgame for me. Absolutely fantastic sound with that spacious openness I really enjoy. It's also very compact. I can't imagine ever wanting to listen to a phone again, though I suppose I'll have to in certain situations.- visiblink

The JVC HA-S500 thread.
I just got the Plenue V and it really is a phenomenal player. The equalizer and effects give you so much control over the sound. You can tune things in just how you like them. So I'd say the player and headphones make for a very nice combination.- visiblink

The JVC HA-S500 thread.
I got these on ebay from Japan a few years ago because of this thread and I listen to them all the time. They have a nice spacious sound with enough high end and solid bass. That being said, the comments about them making your ears a little sore after a while are spot on. I'm generally using...- visiblink

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Mine is no longer rockboxed. It stopped booting from Rockbox, but will boot from the Sansa firmware. The internet tells me that the issue is probably corrupted memory from over-use. I suspect that's true. Rockbox had a really nice "sleep" feature: you could set the device to always turn off...- visiblink

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Still have my rockboxed clip plus, bought in 2013. It resumes play beautifully. When people started complaining about the jack issues, I got a little extension cord. Hopefully I'll be able to solder in a new battery when the time comes, but it's still holding a decent charge for now.- visiblink

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Yeah, for sure. I've just noticed that most of the negative reviews that I've seen have to do with some defect or another. I've put mine up for sale. I find the punchy bass really fatiguing.- visiblink

Some of the bad reviews reflect quality control: I received two units with issues before getting a trouble-free unit.- visiblink

The build quality and sound are both good. The sound of the AGPTEK H01 is aggressive and precise. It's very detailed, with a lot of attack (bass sounds really punch). On certain pieces of music, with a lot of bass, the attack can be quite fatiguing. Let me put it this way: this is not the...- visiblink

Sansa Clip+ Impressions
Is the failure caused by plugging/unplugging cables? If so, why not buy a 10cm long 3.5mm extension cord. $1.49 on eBay. Just leave it in and never unplug from the clip again. If the cause is stress (pressure on the cable/plug end putting pressure on the jack internals), would a right...- visiblink
